I wanted to know do you guys think it is bad to get an interview with touro during Febuary. I have heard that they require an $2,000 payment so I am scared to turn in my application into Touro, let me know

you should ask yourself 2 questions:

1. how bad do you want to go to touro
2. how many interview offers do you have from other schools.

i ended up applying to touro back in august to only deny their offer of acceptance b/c by then, i already had 3 more interviews lined up. if you dont have any interview offers yet, you should apply to touro soon b/c by the time u interview, get your decision plus another two weeks to decide, they might not have a seat for you.

I just saw from the other postings that Touro is already waitlisting applicants in November. I read somewhere that they only interview until all spots are open. I am not sure if they will continue to schedule anymore interviews.

Touro schedule my interview for Febuary because I had an emergency. I am afraid that by Febuary all the seat will be taken. The other pharmacy schools will be interviewing students in January and Febuary so I do not think it will be wise for Touro to fill all the seat now and not wait to interview other canidates in January and Febuary. I predict that when students interview with other school around January and Febuary students will drop Touro and opt to attend the other schools. Do you guys know if Touro is interviewing people in January because the lady told me that their are no interviews schduel for January. Maybe she was mad that I had an emergency and could not attend the December interview

yea.. some people are waitlisted, and some others are accepted. dont think that all the seats are filled, they are not yet. just turn in your app asap and just watch and wait.

maybe you should call and ask how many people were accepted so far. they say they plan to accept about 120 people. then turn it in.. only if you want to go to touro of course. I had 4 interviews before touro and i got waitlisted for 2 and the other 2 i havent even heard a response yet. even if you get a lot of interviews its still chancy as they will still take the best stats and waitlist the rest even if you were the first to interview. thats what happened to me. I was always in the first or second group to interview and my interviews were good but my stats were mediocre so they waitlist me.

I agree with abt04 on the last post.. and unless you have stellar profile [gpa >3.4 and lots of extracurriclar activities (with strong titles like President of such and such)].. as a mediocre applicant anything goes. Even if you had many interviews until you have an official acceptance I wouldn't take a chance losing on any opportunity considering how hard it is to get in nowadays.

I actually have an interview on January 25. Julie Lee just confirmed my interview date earlier today. So, I don't know what that person was talking about when they told you that there aren't any interviews in January. Just wanted to let you know...GOOD LUCK!!

I just had my Touro interview today. All I can say is if I'm accepted then I'm not accepting it. The school left a lot to be desired.

out of curiosity, what was wrong with the school in your opinion?

Yeah i'm curious too.

In my opinion I loved their program... but I thought their campus was farrr from attractive. I drove to the interview and went into the parking lot and thought to myself.. "I must have gotten lost this can't be the school..." but surenuff...

But that said, I paid the 2k anyway because I really like their program.

i thought you said on some other post that you werent sure about attending touro?

but i think i may also attend touro as well.. so if you end up deciding to go to touro, then howdie classmate!!

Yeah I wasn't sure for a while, but after talking to a lot of people and thinking a lot about it with myself, I put the money down.

Now I'm poor +pity+

But at least I'm in at a pharmacy school for next year 🙂

Yeah, I agree. I like their 2+2 program, which gives students more clinical experience. However, the campus needs some improvement though, but it's no big deal

I don't think I could go to a school that explicitly frowns upon the consumption of a thing as wonderful as beer...but hey what do i know.

oh i was wondering... if you don't mind sharing, what are your stats? 🙂

3.45 cum GPA, 3.22 science. Upward trend (3.84 winter 2006, 3.65 spring 2006, 4.0 summer 2006).

Activities - community service frat, pre-pharm club, volunteered at Rite Aid pharmacy and Veterinary Hospital pharmacy.

Sorry, I just got back from the bay area today. As far as the Touro interview...I enjoyed the interview format overall. The professors seem very competent. For the campus though, I didn't see where the $29k tuition was going. The lecture halls were excellent...that was about it. There was a "fitness room" with a bunch of weights scattered and a broken elliptical machine, the gymnasium looked like a middle school gym, the library looked smaller than the one I had at high school, our tour guide didn't show us any labs and there was nothing around the campus. One of the other people being interviewed said they don't have any labs. I HIGHLY doubt that.
For those of you who enjoyed the campus, then that's great. I'm sure they will train you well. Touro University is not a fit for me.

Congradulation to those who got accepted. I am so jealous! My interview will be on Jan 19th, I am so nervous. Anyone going on that date?

nope, what they said is true.. there is no lab yet.. they are in the process of building one according to one of the current students

I actually emailed the women that interviewed me and asked about the labs (or lack thereof). It is true that they have no labs at this point, but they are adding a compounding lab elective that can be taken during the two years of clinical rotations. Here's what was written back:

1) On campus: a fourth year, 6-week elective laboratory on non-sterile compounding

2) Off campus:

· an elective in compounding pharmacy in Marin County

· an elective on preparation of home infusions

3) On or Off-campus: Research laboratories

· Participation in wet laboratory manipulations in a specific Faculty member’s laboratory (on or off campus). Several Faculty members have laboratory benches in Lander Hall, at Touro. Others have research space at institutions such as UC Berkeley; the Buck Institute for Ageing; The Gallo Institute, UC San Francisco.

4) In addition, during your Institutional Rotations (in the 3rd year of our program), you will have a 6-week Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE) that addresses Sterile Compounding.

I put down the deposit as well. No the campus is not too attractive as of now, but i think the pharmacy's schools presence there is going to change that over time. I am excited to be attending Touro next fall!

For those that put in the deposit, are you planning to live on campus or off? i'm looking into some apartments around the area right now. I know it's kind of early, but I'm just planning ahead

I can't make Jan 25, so Feb 2 was the next available date. So they are interviewing in February too.

I have this funny feeling that Touro has schedule everyone who canceled their original interview to Febuary. What do you guys think, just some food for thought

Why do you have to worry about lab or no lab? When the semester starts, you will barely have time for anything else. I dont think you will have time for gym, let alone lab. IMHO, I think you're worrying about the wrong things when picking pharm school. Touro has great classrooms and small rooms for group discussions. Believe me, those are the only places where you will spend most of your time in.

Why shouldn't I worry about a lab and the extra amenities? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel a lab is essential to the pharmacy experience. Studying chemical reactions is completely different than actually dealing with them out of the text. As far as a gym, etc. I'm not a gym rat by any means, but I do need time to do an activity completely unrelated from academics. It helps me keep my sanity. So I believe that the lack of labs and a place for emotional escape is important.

Well, you DO NOT practice pharmacy in a lab. There's no patient there. Or are you expecting having labs like Chem lab in undergraduate? I dont think that will happen in pharm school. Also correct me if I'm wrong. But I have the feeling that in your mind right now is a person in a white coat, wearing goggles and holding up a test tube. Well, that IS NOT a pharmacist. A lot of people believe pharmacists = chemists. That's not true, I tell you. Chemistry is a very small part in pharm school. I've met and talked to several students from different schools in CA during pharmacy seminars and they all agreed on this. The only "lab" you may have is for compounding of prescription and I'm sure Touro, just like any other pharm school, already has a facility for that course.

Perhaps you should consider compounding pharmacy or nuclear pharmacy. These are two types of pharmacists who would definately benefit from an education with a signifigant number of lab hours.

I know I want to specialize. Nuclear pharmacy is one of the areas that I am considering. So when I was discussing the purpose of a lab, I had that in mind. I realize pharmacy does not deal solely with being confined to a lab. Though I figured it was still necessary to expose students to that because some of us may like to specialize in an area where lab work is required here and there.
I also took note of the fact that Touro did not have a lab because both of the schools I interviewed prior (Mercer, UF) had labs.

fwiw, nuclear pharm is something you can do on your own as a summer intern. You don't have to do it thru school...

Is there anyone who has interview on the 19th of Jan? Maybe we can meet up and accompany each other? I am currently out of town, but need to took my flight ticket. Can anyone tell me which airport I should fly to and which hotel to stay, etc? I really appreciate that!

You could either take Oakland airport or SFO, I think Oakland is probably a shorter drive though. But I dont' know firsthand because I live in the area so I didn't have to fly and can't make hotel reccomendations, goodluck with your interview 👍

I will be there on Jan 19th too! Nice to meet you ahead of time. See you there. 🙂 I will be coming from Maryland.

PolarBear, if you don't mind, could you share with us the over process of the interview at Touro and the type of questions they asked? 😉 Thanks a million!

I'll tell you where NOT to stay... Traveller's Inn. The landlord threw out my belongings while I was at my pharmacy interview and yelled for not taking my stuff with me.. this after I confirmed with his daughter the night before that it was okay to stay until the afternoon. I have never been so irate... I was willing to pay appropriately but he wanted me to pay for another full night...

hi everyone 🙂

fly into Oakland (closer) and stay at the Quality Inn
