Hmm what more info are you looking for? I go to Tour-NV, so if you have anything specific I can try to answer it for you.

i'm a first yr at TUNV too if you have any questions...

nocturn...what are you doing posting here at 12:30 am...don't you know its block exams week? 😀

Hey Touro students---

I have an interview there Tuesday the 20th. You might know my friend who is in the PA program, Mike Allen?

Anyway, I've heard nothing but fantastic things about the school, and really really really would love to attend there next fall. Anyway, here are some questions:

1)What's your favorite thing about Touro?
2)What do you feel separates Touro from other schools?
3)General/specific advice about the interview
4)Approx. interview-to-acceptance stats? I only ask because I get a little paranoid about something when I really want it, and I just need to feel somewhat good about my chances there.

Thanks to all! 😀 😀

LOL I had to do something to take a break from anatomy. My brain is starting to rot out of my head from trying to get everything down. Maybe I should do what we learned in PH, something about a great way to relieve stress was heavy drinking right, or was that deep breathing? Could always try them both 😉

Ok lets see. First off I personally don't know anyone from the PA class. The Dos and PAs really never run into each other. We have different classes in different places at about the same time so we never really cross paths.

1. I am going to cheat and say the top two things are the teachers and my classmates. The teachers are really great and my class is really supportive of each other and always willing to help out.

2. The fact the school is new and the area its in. Its a state of the art school in the heart of a highly underserved area (NV is in desperate need of doctors). This is going to give us a lot of hands on experience. Also the location is great with lots to do and things are open when you need them (lots of 24 hour eating places and supply stores).

3. I am not sure really about advice for the interview. I interviewed at 3 schools and each interview was completely different. My interview at Touro was the most laid back and more of a conversation that question and answer fire session. They did ask me things from my file including my primary app, secondary app, LORs, and transcripts. Some questions I got that I can remember were "Who is Dr. X who wrote you a letter, how long did you know him, what did you do shadowing him?" "Why do you want to come all the way out here to NV?" "Would you be comfortable taking an active part in the shaping of a new school?" and of course THE question "Why DO?"

4. Touro was really good about letting you know pretty fast. The way they did it for me was that they had 2 weeks worth of interviews, then a week of making choices. You can e-mail the head of admissions if you would like him to e-mail you the results as soon as they get them. He will tell you whether you are in, waitlisted, or declined. They will go over it with you during your interview.

Some other things I can say. The interview was from about 8-3 with people being pulled out starting in the morning and going through till almost the end. Interviews were anywhere from 20-45 minutes. For me it was two people interviewing me at the same time. A word of caution for anyone coming down for interviews soon. They are doing a lot of weird construction in the area so definately drive down and find the school before the actual interview to get familar with the area. Anything else you want to know just ask.

Oh man, that was ICM...... time to lay down some bets on your grade.

Of course my ICM grade will happily be bringing up the bottom.

1) my fav thing about touro has to be the atmosphere. everyone is always willing to help each other out. the prof's spend tons of time and are very accessible. our gross anatomy profs come in and help in the lab every weekend (you just gotta know when to find em there). the students all help each other a ton. last years class gives us their stuff, and is always there to answer any questions we have...and this years class...well, we rock! overall, its a very supportive atmosphere.
2) a lot of things, obviously. we just started a cadaver prep program, we are in an area with an extremely high demand, so we have a ton of opportunities available, the atmosphere, the strip :hardy: (we do take advantage of living 10 minutes away from the strip), and the faculty
3) always have a ton of confidence in your answer, and make sure that there is some way you can justify what you are saying. in my interview at tunv, my interviewer asked me if i believed we should shift towards a system of single unit health care (or something like that, i still have no idea what that means). i was clueless, so i said no (i figured if it was that good an idea, i might have heard of it). then he said why not. i gave a super general answer, something about how although that might benefit some, it will still leave many populations in a less than spectacular situation, and in my opinion, the benefits did not outweigh the disadvantages...blah blahblah...you get it.
4) no clue on stats. sorry

good luck, and see you next week! 😀

Thanks for the responses, guys! My hopes keep getting higher and higher for that school! 😉
