Ok, if you interviewed already, how is getting to the hotel from Oakland airport? Tricky?

And if you're interviewing on the 12th and want to maybe share a rental car, let me know. think i will fly in on the 11 (late afternoon at the earliest).

oh i'm a girl if it matters.

I'd recommend AGAINST the rental car. There are many shuttle services from the Oakland airport. If you haven't driven before in the bay area, you don't want your first time to be in the dark, the night before your exam. Oh, and you really don't want to be alone in Vallejo, asking directions. Take the shuttle. More money but you get to relax to the hotel, and not worry about getting lost

It takes about 45min. to get to the Quality Inn from the Oakland airport, if you don't run into major traffic that is. It is a little tricky to find the hotel, the directions the Quality Inn gives are horrible! So, if you can find directions from another source you should. You have to pay a toll on the bridge going into Vallejo of $3. Hope that helps!! 🙂

hmm...maybe i will do the shuttle...

I'm interviewing there on the 12th as well, but I am hoping that I do not have to rent a car. Does the quality inn shuttle take you from San Fran Airport to the hotel?

Thanks!

i disagree about the shuttle. i rented a car and it was so easy. all together renting a car cost me under $40 for one day of rental. i drove from sfo airport to touro and it was pretty easy...mostly driving on the highway. i'd never been to california before my interview and all i did was mapquest the hotel from the airport and i was good. if u wanted to save a little money (or if u have a companion with you) renting a car is just fine. wheter renting or taking the shuttle, choose which ever is most comfortable for you 🙂

I agree. 👍

Yeah, it's not necessarily a bad idea depending on what your arrival and departure times are. I got to SFO at 5 a.m. on a Sunday so my trip to Vallejo was a breeze (used MapQuest directions); returned to SFO at 4 p.m. on a Monday, which was NOT a breeze, as I ended up getting rear-ended on the freeway in traffic and got some nasty whiplash!

Yikes!! Sari I hope you are doing okay after that. All in the name of medicine! 🙂

Yeah, I was in quite a bit of pain; got a nice shot of IM Toradol the next day after my interview in Vegas. Maybe the whole experience was a blessing in disguise - a week later, after my first acceptance, I went to my local DO who practices OMM. After he knocked me back into shape (so to speak), he chatted with me and invited me to our state's osteopathic association's Christmas party. LOL.

are you sure you guys have your dates correct? the 12th is a Sunday.. I didn't think they do interviews on the weekend. I'm interviewing on the 13th (monday).. i'll be arriving in town friday afternoon and will be hanging out with some relatives all weekend. I'm renting a car sunday afternoon from OAK airport and driving to vallejo. i wanted to drive because i wanted to spend sunday driving around to the local towns (i.e.- benicia, american canyon) during the daytime because i wanted to see what life was like around vallejo, but not in the supposed sketchy areas. part of interviewing is also experiencing what life would be like if you lived there.

Dec 12th is a tuesday 🙂

I'd recommend driving to Benicia. It's a nice little town with a great view of - I think - the Bay Bridge. There's a lot of desert around there too, which is a novelty for people like me (from the tundra). I also drove to Sonoma and Napa and ate a grape from a vineyard 🙂 . Probably was trespassing. Oops.

Good luck Cee!!

I'm back into the idea of maybe renting a car...I guess my big thing is not getting lost on the freeways since I'll prob be arriving late afternoon to evening...If I take southwest that means I have to fly into Oakland, is the campus trickier to find coming from Oakland as opposed to SFO? Anyone?
Sorry to harp on this, I just know people keep talking about getting lost and how the directions to the hotel were "bad."

I am not sure if it is more tricky, but the Oakland airport is closer than the SF airport. Also, make sure that you have really good directions BEFORE you start driving. Trying to look at and make sense of directions while you are actually in route is not good/dangerous. I would actually recommend flying into Oakland. It's usually cheaper and like I said closer. If you need directions from Oakland let me know! 👍

i drove through the oakland bridge from the sfo airport to get to touro..i think i passed oakland on the way. i really think you'll be fine..trust me 🙂 i'm probably the worst person with directions and even i found my way with no problems. mapquest it and print out lots of detailed maps of area..i think u'll be okay 😉
