Touro-NV vs. AZCOM?
Started by HCW212
Which would you choose, tuition/cost of living aside? I want to hear some different perspectives between these two specific schools. Thanks for any input.
You could make another thread with a poll in it. Regardless,
- AZCOM-----1
- Touro NV--0
To me it seems like a no brainer with AZCOM. More established name. Nicer range of rotations. Solid curriculum with administration that almost seemed bitter about not having a 100% pass rate (not a bad thing). Students were all pretty happy and the campus is very nice. Housing is about what you'd expect for the area. Both are hot. I've heard average things about Touro-NV. The people that are most excited about it seem to be the ones from Vegas area, or with lots of family there. Thats not to say others don't choose it as a first, but I personally feel that AZCOM is the more solid school and affiliated with a strong school as well. Whenever I mention Touro the first thing I hear is, "Is that the school with all of those branch campuses?". It almost has a negative connotation to it. I'm not knocking the school by any means, but I just think azcom is better.
- AZCOM-----2
- Touro NV--0
Thank you score keeper 😀
Anyway, I wanted more than just an either/or response and a few reasons as to why which one over the over. I realize you can do that with a poll thread, but i figured I'd get more quality posts like this. Thanks for the input so far.

Go with the gut...
I'm a grad student and I applied to some great schools with big names and reputations, and got in. However, when it came down to it I chose one of the "lesser" schools because it felt like a better fit for me. Now, I have 6 publications which, if I chose to complete a PhD rather than med school, would make me extremely competitive for post-docs and employment-just as good as any student from a school with a big reputation.
In large part your education will be what you make it, so goes with what feels best to you, not what other people think.

I second this! Well said.
No one can tell you what's best for you besides YOU. I suggest reading up and comparing your interview experiences, etc. Posting on SDN asking X School vs. Y School really isn't that helpful and tends to turn into a popularity contest IMO. And believe me I have a strong pull towards one of the mentioned institutions but my vote again is whats best for me...not you.
I suggest PMing current students and asking their opinions of the schools you're choosing between. Best of luck in your decision making!
All good advice about "fit," etc. However, there are definitely ways to determine if a school is good for you, via fairly objective measures that others will use, as well. Thus a popularity contest might be fairly accurate, but could fail to represent the minority who might dissent from the crowd.
Thus, I'll leave my vote with a caveat: It takes a lot of time to make an informed decision of school X vs. Y. This thread may help, as MossPoh has brought up some good points. However, they're extremely biased and will not tell you much about the other school (regardless of how much I agree with his points). You may just come out of this thread with an extremely skewed opinion based on biased presentations. However, interviews, current students, and websites are also full of biased info...🙄

I may have worded that wrong. I agree CB! Just wanted to get the point across that certain schools have members/supporters who frequent these forums much more than other schools and in turn: you'll hear more about X school even if Y school is just as good.
As an example: I've been reading on SDN for over 2 years and heard very little from strong schools such as TCOM, OUCOM, and OSUCOM while other institutions seem to come up in every other discussion!

No, no, no, I agree with what you said. I just wanted to add that I did, as opposed to just contributing my biased view to the poll. 😉

I interviewed at both schools and was accepted to both. I have no interest in attending Touro-NV after visiting the campus. It just didn't feel like a place I want to spend the next few years. I was impressed by the facilities and the growth of AZCOM as well as the heavy emphasis they put on doing well on the board exams. My vote goes to AZCOM.

As a resident of Las Vegas for about 6years and this is strictly my personal opinion, I would not chose to go to TOURO-NV. I agree the facilities and school is really nothing to be impressed or to be excited about. I also have heard from people who like it and from those who would prefer to be somewhere better. Not liking or choosing the Touros' is a personal opinion that happens to be a majority opinion.
