I got into both of these schools and am trying to decide between them. I think they are both great schools, and do not think there is a bad choice here. I encourage people to weigh in that have seen, considered, interviewed, or attended one of the schools. I am also interested in general surgery, so if anyone thinks I would have more opportunities at one of these schools over the other, please chime in. I think I could do general surgery at either, but perhaps there is more I should be thinking about at this stage.

Here is what I have seen and you can tell that I am leaning toward Touro-NV pretty heavily. Any opinions are appreciated.

Touro-NV pluses
-more personal education- it is easier to ask faculty members questions (they are all in one building and abide by an open door policy); Western on the other hand has faculty members scattered throughout a large campus and has many more programs

-Henderson area- I know Southern Cal gets a big preference from a lot of students, but I am not a city person and really like those big skies out in Nevada.

-Touro-NV is the only school in the Las Vegas area and Western students compete with the CA medical schools for clinical rotation spots; from my research (correct me if I am wrong), Touro has the edge on clinical rotations; Western also has the Northwest track program which I would view as a plus if it were not for the fact that you need to sign a contract before you attended guaranteeing you would go to Washington state or Oregon. I would probably want go, but life changes suddenly and I am not ready to sign any contacts at this point in my life.

Western pluses
-better reputation and more history; the school has been producing solid physicians for 30 years and has some of the highest board scores to back it up; Touro-NV has only been around for 5 or so years and doesn't history on its side.

the same
-COMLEX pass rates at both schools are high
-students seem to enjoy the school

Western's campus is really small. It's probably a couple hundred meters from one side to the other.

I would choose Western because of its longer reputation. Compare cost if that is a factor. The biggest thing to consider is the clinical situation at each school. Also look at the affiliated residency programs when deciding.

I think that unless you are wanting to get a residency in California, my vote is for Touro NV. 👍 You seem to be leaning towards them, and it seems like you prefer a lot of aspects about them. I think that history in the long run won't be so important, as long as you do away rotations where you are applying for residencies.

I can't really say, since don't know anything about either school, I did not apply any of them either, but as I read the SDN, I pick up some stuff.

I can't remember which thread but it is a new one, if I find it I'll post it, but one of them said Touro rotations were terrible. This person had to pick up lot of loans to set up his/her rotations, etc...
The whole thread was about something else, but people wanted to know which school it was, so I guess it was Touro-NV.
I know it might be not true, but if I read bad things about a school that (personally) turns me off, even if not everything is true, part of probably is.
The only bad thing I read was about their rotations, so make sure not all of them .
I really never read anything bad about Western.

ok, I find it, read the whole thread:

Hope it helps

That is a Touro CA student going to Vegas for rotations, not a Touro NV student.

True, but they mention Touro NV, and its rotations, I also assume Touro NV rotations around NV, could be wrong, but I don't care.

I post it to read through, read it through, if it's true or not don't care, op can make up his/her own mind.

I thought it would be useful that's why I post it.

Here are some of the comments from that thread:
"The Touro-NV campus was just putting it's first group of third year students into clinicals and so the good rotations were spread thin. They were suppose to set up our third year rotations and it was a disaster! 4-5 months of the year I was without a rotation three days into the month and calling/emailing the office in Calif and Vegas to find out where I should go."
Other: "I don't go to Touro Ca, NV or AZCOM but I've heard many bad experience stories during rotations at these schools (maybe its a west coast thing except for Western)."

There you have it:

As i understood both campus have problems with their rotations.
