I hope Mr. Perez will send us another email regarding the waitlist. The only thing I got was a general email in January

me!

but its not ranked yet right?
i just got a letter saying ive been placed on the waitlist.

Yea it's not ranked. I wonder when they will start accepting off the waitlist.

I was on the waitlist...last year... so since Obed is gone and perez is the new director...DO not expect it to be organized by any means... its not organized...and he isn't organized... they will rank it when they start looking at the waitlist.. if they still have the high waitlist group, which they did last year.. also update them with news things that you can add to your application.. Another thing I will say is...get your app out right away next year and hope for the best and plan for the worst.

i think it is ranked by high, med, low. i called two days ago and was told i was high wl

maybe someone else can confirm the ranking? i dont know when we should expect movement though.. apparently they had 7000 applications this year

I emailed Mr. Perez and he told me that they don't do rankings. He emailed me 2 weeks ago. I also called Issa Sow a week before that and he said the same thing.

I'm not sure what's going on.

i had spoke with Dr Cammarata. They will be pulling people off the wl based off their MCAT scores according to him

Really?? Did he say whether it will be based on the overall score or just the bio section?

so then is what you said earlier by the DOA false?? (below is what you stated earlier)

it didnt indicate any type of rank- DOA said that the rank depends on how early you get waitlisted and that they take 40% of that list. so the earlier you get wl the better im assuming

im assuming his letter did not indicate any sort of ranking, just like the rest of us.
but when he called two days ago he was told he was high waitlisted.
so neither of it has to be false.

no, one post says ranking done by how early you interview, another post says done by MCAT score. hence conflicting information.

If this is true, the waitlist is indeed ranked in a chronological fashion.😕

well ive called more than once.. the DOA had told me there was no rank. my email also said the same thing. But yesterday, Dr Cammarata told me they would select applicants based off overall MCAT score..

Ive heard different things from them multiple times.. So maybe someone else should call to confirm?

Called Mr Sow yesterday. There is no ranking system and they should be pulling ppl off the waitlist "very soon". He didnt state how though

well logic says that it probably is ranked in some kind of manner....i mean otherwise they just pull names out of a hat dont they?

is it weird if i had a dream last night that i was in a restaurant with some friends, and was checking my email on my phone and got an email from Touro saying i was accepted, and then i freaked out and started going crazy in the restaurant and my friends tried to contain me...then woke up after my friend tackled me over my chair haha

Cool dream 👍

I just received an email from Mr. Perez saying I was placed on the priority waitlist. Did anyone get a similar email? I interviewed 2/15 and got my waitlist letter 3/3, then this email came today.

I also got this email this morning. I wonder how many people are on this "priority" list...

i also got an email today stating that I am on the priority list. not sure what this means... is it just a fancy name for the waitlist?

Everyone got the same letter, relax. No one's special... yet.

For those of you who got the priority waitlist email today, do you mind to share your stats? I got a waitlist letter on March 2nd, no emails so far.

I'll share mine if you share yours..
'priority' waitlisted just yesterday. MCAT 10V 10B 8P, GPA 3.4
The letter mentioned that moving off the waitlist depends partly on future interviews and acceptances. I was under the impression, however, that all seats were filled. Can anyone explain?

yea, i'm not feeling great about it. 🙁 thinking it may be because i didn't do so well in orgo (had to retake) and don't have any research experience. thought the interview went well. who knows, there are so many variables

When did you interview? For some reason, we tend to fill a huge percentage of the class early in the cycle, then waitlist even great applicants in the spring semester.

Don't give up hope though, I made it in even though my initial waitlist spot was higher than 50. Not sure if that will happen this year, but it has in the past.

I agree. I was accepted having retaken orgo I and II. Also without any research and similar stats. But I interviewed back in early december

Thanks LesBois 🙂
Interviewed just last week. I'm already gearing up to go for the next cycle in June if nothing comes through this one.

Would you mind sharing with us the timeline of your application? and to what other schools you've applied?

Your GPA is on-par with half of DO schools and a little on the lower side for the other half. However, your MCAT is competitive for all. I'm guessing you applied very later, like January late.

Sure. I applied to 11 schools, received supplementals for all and returned 9- AZCOM, CCOM, UNDMJ, PCOM, NSU, LECOM-B, LECOM-E, NYCOM, TouroNY. It took me several months to receive and return them, here is the breakdown of when they were sent
Oct- NSU and both LECOMs, UNDMJ- Invite to LECOM-E in Nov, interviewed in Feb and waitlisted
Nov- CCOM, AZCOM, PCOM- Invited to AZCOM in Dec, interview in April, rejected from CCOM
Dec- NYCOM and Touro- had to call Touro to get my supplemental. Invited and interviewed at both in March and waitlisted at Touro

Why did you take months to fill out your secondaries?

Why didn't you apply to DMU and KCUMB?

I am asking myself the same question.. and kicking myself because I don't have a good enough answer.

I wanted to stay relatively close to the East coast. Went out on a limb by applying to AZCOM. Don't know much about DMU and KCUMB. How competitive are they?

well the thing is....they dont care about verbal so although you got a 28, which is average, you got an 8 in the physical section which is def holding you back....i stayed after my interview and discussed the mcat with the guy in charge of years 1-2, i was told that they dont even look at the verbal score because its unfair to certain ppl.......im debating nycom vs touro vs umdnj vs one md school i got into, so at least 1 waitlist spot will probably open for TOURO, best of luck to all

and honestly someone mentioned 28 being competitive, im not sure anymore, everywhere i interviewed i was hearing mostly 30 and up mcat scores, unless that is ppl are lying of course, then shame on them!!

I sent all my apps in the middle of january, 31 mcat, 3.6 sci, 3.8 overall, and I STILL felt the heat of the competition, theres a rise in ppl applying to DO schools as well, bc we all know going MD is a roll of the dice sometimes and excruciatingly difficult to get into.

AND one more thing come on people lets use some logic and reasoning here, do you really believe that there is no ranking to the waitlist? SO if theres 100 ppl on the waitlist with no type of ranking, are they just doing a lottery drawing? Im sure there is some method and im willing to bet it rests a lot on the MCAT, that is one objective measure that we were all on fair grounds when we took the test, even gpa can be deceiving....

they dont for interview, but to get off the waitlist, they just look at overall score. thats what they're basing it off of in case anyone was wondering (spoke to the dean about it)

I doubt that they don't care about verbal. And a 28 is above average. You don't think premeds lie and do whatever it takes to get into a med school? Shame on you. And you applied in january which is pretty late.

I'm going to be giving up my spot on the Touro wait list, hopefully this bumps some of you up a spot! Good luck to all.

cole smalls, i literally talked to the director of the first two years and he told me word for word, they dont even look at verbal, he said he takes student with 10 bio, 10 physical, and 5 verbal, bc all they care about is the bio and physical

and im pretty sure 28 is the new average for ppl getting in, dont see why it would be any lower

and yea i did apply very late, but luckily still got in everywhere i applied, its very possible if you are motivated and show them that at the interview

that's only true for when u interview and get accepted, not true for when ur on waitlist (at least for this year)

I was talking to students who attend Western and they told me the same thing. Is this true for other DO schools?

Yes and No. It appears that for at least a 2 year period it was 100% true. Now it appears that the school wants to up its stats, so while they claim it to be true, it is definitely *not* the case if you are put on waitlist. They are using MCAT scores (including verbal) as one of the first filtering mechanisms on the waitlist now that its pretty much the end of interview season. Supposedly (and I have no reason to doubt them) the MCAT verbal is still not being utlized when selecting who to interview and who from interview gets accepted. But if you dont get straight in from the interview, that verbal score will count then.

the verbal score by itself is not being looked at for when you are waitlisted, its just the total mcat score that they are looking at.
