Can someone please explain why administration of toxoids is considered passive immunity? I thought toxoids are weakened toxins, thus, should be active immunity. Thanks.
Toxoids are active, you're right on that - are you thinking of antitoxins? Antitoxins are artificial passive immunity. Can someone please explain why administration of toxoids is considered passive immunity? I thought toxoids are weakened toxins, thus, should be active immunity. Thanks.

Toxoids are exotoxins exposed to heat or formaldehyde (or acid).....Therefore, they are immunogenic (stimulate the immune system) but are not harmful!!
Thus, toxoids confer artificial (since they're injected) active (bcoz they stimulate antibody production) immunity.
Hope this helps......👍
