I did half of the BR Verbal and some EK 101 but scored the 2011 TPR online. So I'm on the 9th passage and this crap is so hard! I'm averaging 2-3/8!! I am reading very slowly; not even timing myself to try and understand every word. I just don't get the inferences. It is so subjective. How am I supposed to know what the author is (not)implying! I was doing better on EK.

Is this similar to AAMC? If so, I am so done.

don't read for the details. don't get caught up if you don't understand a certain sentences. i have always been weak in verbal, so i've gone through many books. from all of them, i would say TPR is the hardest. but hey, good practice right? 🙂

Problem is what is considered "details" and there are many sentences I am not understanding!

When I was done with EK and switched to TPRH, I started out getting 2/3 right out of 7/8, even though I had been acing most of the final EK passages. However, by the time I finished TPRH, I was consistently getting 7/7s and 6/6s. I woudn't worry about it. Switching materials seems to take a bit of time to get used to.

Well that is somewhat comforting. I will keep chugging away. Thank you!!

I think there needs to be some better way to study for the verbal. I don't think the current methods are really that good. I have used EK and TPR and although both are ok... 1.) They don't give enough strategy and 2.) when I do the aamc passages, they just don't seem the same. Too many details. I have been online and on this forum but can't find any other types of practice... This is definitely my weakest link

I found AAMC Verbal to be a totally different beast ... Looks simple sometime but ambiguous ... Sometimes passages are harder but questions easier. You can say it's a mix of both EK and TPR. I don't like verbal at all.

I completely agree. I feel that some of the explanations for both EK and TPR are not the best and I don't think that they resemble the AAMCs well. I am not knocking them down, but it is like everyone says-- AAMCs are just different. I feel that when I do the AAMCs, the correct answers to a question make sense-- they are less ambiguous, but then again, it may just be me.

This is why Verbal is so difficult. There is no true predictor or mirror of the passages and types of quest. We are limited based on the AAMCs being the only close resemblance and even then, most of the AAMCs are 20 yrs old (except the last few). So at this end, one questions how good they are of mirroring the current exam.
