I was looking into match lists at certain DO schools and am confused on this match: Traditional Rotating. What does it mean when you're matched into this category, as opposed to other areas like Family Practice, OB/GYN, Anesthesiology, etc...

It means you aren't automatically in a residency and must apply for one the next year.

This is for the kids that never picked a major.

It is a general year. Some specialties require that you do a general intern year (different names between DO and MD, but same idea) before you actually start your residency. That's why many people do a traditional rotating internship. Some others do it because it gives you a good medical basis, still others do it because they don't know what they want to do yet.
