This is the reason for the court system. What it should have been classified as (or even was initially) does not matter. It only matters what you were convicted of. If you were never convicted of a misdemeanor and got the traffic violation instead, you never got a misdemeanor.I appear in court today and they are saying that the case actually should have been classified as a MISDEMEANOR but then ended up knocking it down to a traffic violation anyways. it was quite a rollercoaster, as I had no idea that misdemeanor was even on the table to begin with.
.It's a nothingburger here; I would lean towards not reporting it but if you did it's a speeding ticket. Some states (Virginia IIRC) charge speeding tickets as misdemeanors. You might've gotten a speeding ticket that day because of what the cop had for breakfast that morning, or because you drive a Mustang, or a 2004 BMW or Lexus, or just because your car is bright red with lots of mods and draws cop attention...while you could have done the exact same thing in a minivan and been fine.
actually thats interesting - im from VA originally and have 2 speeding tickets from there but they weren't charged as misdemeanors?
