Tragedy in CO

I was going to make a joke and lighten the mood but did not realize the extent of the damage he had caused. Quite frightening, if you put yourself in the place of audience member when it happened.

I don't think we're permitted to speculate on person's mental illness (is that why this news is posted here? Or is it about gun control...which I really rather not talk about) but I do wonder if he actually believed he was the Joker, which would narrow down the possibilities of what mental illness he had. It's creepy, I just remembered Heath Ledger had played the Joker in the last film. Btw, based on what I've read the killer was no longer a PhD student and he had quit last month. But he was a very good student in the past. And his place is booby-trapped with chemicals and explosives. Imagine if a neighbor had walked in...or if the cops had done so. Reminds me of the movie "Speed." Eerie.

Edit: oops, just saw the reason it was posted, violence in movies.

This whole thing is unreal. My entire cohort went and saw Batman last night. I couldn't imagine what that must have been like for them.

Apparently that was part of his plan... He wanted all the cops at his apartment building so he could kill more people at the movie theater. Its crazy and scary. He was going to lure them there by trying to break the noise ordinance by blaring techno music.

I wonder if getting kicked out or quitting his phD program was a stressor for him or if it was part of a break down that led him to that point?

Whats crazier is its almost the anniversary of the massacre in Norway. June is apparently a bad month...

Ugh, they are playing the profiles of those killed. I hate those. Excuse me while I cry forever. ;_________; I need to quit watching the news.

Mewtoo, you gotta stop watching. I get sucked in all the time though I'm getting better at resisting. Be it 9/11, WTO protests, the Norway massacre...whatever. At some point I lose perspective. Think about it: if you're constantly watching CNN (like I ended up doing), you not only risk vicarious traumatization but you also cut yourself from reality of life out there that is far from the magnified horror of the particular event discusses and dramatized over and over again. I live in Vancouver, Canad, and after watching continuous coverage of the Vancouver Stanley Cup riots in 2011 for hours, I suddenly feared for my own safety and could not take a nap fearing intruders. I then decided to turn the TV off, go for a 20 minute walk around my place (which was peaceful and far away from the riots), and simply be in the moment. Once my senses were given time to relax and enjoy the natural setting around me, I had a much better grasp on reality and had a much better perspective on the events.

Yeah, I accidentally let dinner burn... twice.... because I kept wanting to watch CNN. In my defense the satellite said it was supposed to play Undercover Boss. CNN tricked me. :| I'm just going to watch King of the Hill and eat burned flavor food and try to quit reading yahoo updates about it before I start becoming paranoid about going to the movies and start crying like I do when I watch The Lovely Bones...

This whole thread reminds me of why I cut the cable cord and now stream all my content from the internet a la carte (e.g., Netflix, Hulu, XBMC)..... I don't have to sit and have media garbage passively shoved down my throat
