Do schools typically include or not include NBME shelf exam scores on the Transcript/MSPE?

The reason I ask is that my school does NOT include them with our third year grades. Our third year grades are based on a combination of our clinical evaluations grade and the shelf exam score. Our school releases the overall grade, the grade based solely on our evaluations, as well as comments that were written to go into the Dean's letter.

I'm very happy with my overall grades, evaluations, and all that but I was also proud of my score on the shelf exams.

Now, if most schools don't publish/release these, it's no big deal, but if it's common for program directors to get this info, is there any way for me to share my NBME shelf exam scores without looking like a tool?

No shelf scores in my dean's letter...just the overall grade and comments.

My school includes them in the Dean's letter. I've never seen it mentioned how much shelf exam scores matter in ranking candidates...

Very few schools list shelf exam scores on the transcript.

About half of dean's letters mention shelf exam scores.

About half of Department / Chair letters mention the IM shelf score.

Another thought - if your shelf scores are that good, there is no way you would not rock Step II if you took it early.

That's part of the issue. Due to a high Step 1 and my fourth year schedule, I haven't taken Step II yet, so it'd be nice to sub in my shelf grades as a stand in. I will have it during interview season, so hopefully the trend continues.

Thanks aPD, very interesting.

My school put the shelf scores on the Dean's letter only (not transcript) only for certain rotations and only if they were high (above 92nd percentile I think). My medicine one and one other got mentioned for that reason.

my school puts the shelf scores in the deans letter. However, when we started third year, they had originally told us that only the final grade would appear, apparently they are lying bastards.

My school only included them if they were over 90th percentile.

Our school does include them if they're over the 50th percentile, which can blow because now the programs know which half you fall under for every rotation.

My school includes all the 3rd year shelf exam national percentiles, but not the raw scores. Our 3rd-year grades aren't used to rank us. We get a score for our clinical skills (evals, OSCEs), and a separate cognitive score (shelf only) for each 3rd year elective.

That's awesome. I wish our school did that.
