Hello,

I'm aware that SOPHAS opens in late August. However, can I have my transcripts, recs, and GRE sent before then, or do I have to wait for it to open to take the GRE, request my transcripts be sent, and solicit for recs?

Thanks

One more question:

I know most schools just require 3 apps. As a current undergrad w/ some good work experience, I am having trouble deciding who to ask for one from. I would like to have one from a professor and 2 from public health job supervisors (one of who is a professor). Would it be looked down upon to only have 1 from a professor who taught me and 2 from work, considering I'm an undergrad?

Thanks

SOPHAS has a pretty detailed FAQs section as well as a number to call them with questions. They would probably be of the most help.

Hi Coolrunnings-

I would go with four recommendation letters, so that you have two academic related and two work related letters. Balance it out.

I had four letters: one from work, one from the director of my undergrad PH program (also my professor), one from a professor who was the advisor for my research/thesis and one from a PhD candidate (who was a lecturer for two of my PH courses).

Of course, this was just my own personal experience, but I believe that having had letters from very different sources, who can all say something different about who you are and what you excel at, makes for a well-rounded impression to the admissions committee. The last thing they are looking for is generic letters. Choose people who know you well, know your professional goals and who can discuss the strengths and weaknesses of you as an employee and as a student.

Hope this helps! 🙂
