If a student took one semester at a community college, and dont want to transfer those credits to there University because of bad grades, would that be ok? I want to start at a local university and "start over", I really dont want medical schools seeing that semester. I also plan on applying at Ross University for med school

When you apply for medical school, you would have to report all courses taken. Thus, it is essential that you report the "bad" semester at the community college on your medical school application.

Doesn't matter, they need to be reported.

Yes, you are required to report it. And, if they find out later that you lied, it is going to be a major issue for you. Also, I'd rethink the whole Ross thing....you are at the beginning of your career, just do well from now on and you will be fine despite your bad semester. There are NO shortcuts in medicine.

You have to report it, and if you lie and get in, and they discover in 4th year that you lied, you will be expelled, still be responsible for all the debt, and unable to gain admission to any US medical school again.

If you failed all your classes, try to get them withdrawn by the community college. They will still appear on your transcript, but will not lower your GPA. If this doesn't work, just do very well at your University and you should still be ok.

If you failed 16 credits that semester, and get a 4.0 for 120 credits at your university, you will end up with over a 3.5 GPA which won't keep you out of medical school, especially with a high MCAT.

Yea, I know a doctor who went to Ross and she has all positive things to say about Ross.. Along as I have the "MD", going to a prestigious school doesnt matter to me. If I know what im doing and treat my patients like they're humans thats all that matters to me.

Feel free to go where you want. There is a reason why we are telling you differently. By the way, if you don't want to treat patients like they are "humans" then you should consider vet school.

going to ross would be foolish. go spend some time in the international forum and see the kind of problems people are having getting residencies. You will technically have an MD but if you can't get a residency, you can put BO PF NF SO WN or any other combination of letters and it will be just as valuable as your MD.

Retake the classes you did bad in and apply DO.

N=1
Either way, it's your bank account man. Ross isn't going to care if you're part of the ~70% of it's students which fail to make it into any residency and thus cannot even be doctors. They only care that you continue to pay the school money.
Or, you could retake like most of your low grades and apply to DO school, which boast at the minimum 90% residency placements for all students.

Highly agree with this.
OP take a look at this thread -> http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=813819

You really should do your research. Caribbean schools shouldn't be a first resort.

I meant treat them like humans, cause ive seen soo many doctors that have the impression that they are greater than there patients and totally disrespect them. I see it everyday as an EMT, this motivates me even more to be an MD because I know patients dont need that kind of person as a there doctor. Medical schools need to start looking at attitudes/personality before admitting these students. But im open for reasons why Ross isnt the right choice?

Never heard that some dont get residencies..thats scary!!!

Easily over 50% of their class either fails to graduate or make it into a US residency. Which is why we're telling you to either A) retake classes and go to a DO school, B) Go to an SMP, or C) Find a new career. Because if you graduate from Ross and fail to make it into a residency you'll have nearly 200k in non-bankruptable loans you'll have to pay off, with no ability to land a respectable job at that I might add.

As a comparison btw, 95% of all students at a USMD or USDO school will obtain a residency.

so basically you have done no research on the school yet it's your top choice? real smart
I have even started pre-med classes yet! I have alot of time to research these schools. Im going by what i've heard. I know a paramedic that went to Ross and had success with the program. I know that he wouldnt give false info to his partner.

DO has grade forgiveness so in a way you kind of are able to start over.

You don't want to rely on one person's (or 10, or 20) experience. You want to compare overall stats for matching when going Caribbean vs. a US MD or DO school. Don't go Caribbean if you can possibly avoid it, and in your case, there is absolutely no reason to restrict yourself there at this point.

Thanks for the response..They have a DO school in my state (Pikeville)-looks like a good school. I dont get why MD schools are so strict with prior grades..Just like in my situation, there are students that go down the wrong path and try to turn it around and they say that cant happen! Alot of 18 yo's are gonna have this happen, shouldnt hold you back for what you want to do when your 30.

Good point! Ill start looking into DO and MD stats- Im studying Pre-med/Biology and im awesome in biology (Chem not so much) could possibly pull off a 4.0 🙂 if I try really hard

Because medical school is a stats game. They do offer some redemption for an upward trend, but when you've got a boatload of students with 3.6/31+'s without ever needing to redeem themselves... Well let's just say competition is a driving force here.

aim for Harvard. that way if you fall short you end up at UNC. I think you are nearly starting over with the university in the sense that I doubt your cc grades will really hold you back if you do well at the university. My cousin had a similar situation where she transferred to a University, did well, and she is now a D.O. pathology resident. It can definitely happen, just prove to admissions committees that you are academically capable through doing well in the university and a high MCAT.

Sounds Good to me! This is how my grades are during community college:
B
C
D
F
A (EMT-Top of class)
Most suck! But I start Pre-med/Biology soon at a university and paramedic school

so you retake the C, D, and F, you will be golden for DO schools and if you do well enough, you could be OK for MD schools. just got to look at the final numbers.
