i got my associates from a community college, when i went to a 4-year college after that, the counselor said a few of the credits wouldn't transfer over to that school because they don't offer them, including a English American Lit. class I got a D+ in. Since it doesn't transfer to this new school and I can't make it up there, does it mean I have to go back to the community college and take it over?

Use all the free resources available to you from SDN: articles, guides, expert advising, forums discussions, and school research.
If you want/need to improve your overall GPA then retake the course, if it is required for a certain medical school (i.e. UMDNJ requires 6 credits of english) then you should take it over, other than that I would leave it alone.
