I would like to transfer from my current medical school to somewhere else, really anywhere else. I don't have a reason beyond not liking my current place, but I should be in good academic standing. What are my options? Please let me know which schools might be receptive to admitting me (current third year, step 1 pass). Thank you.

Just so you know, thats probably not a good enough reason to get the transfer approved at most schools.
Also, they usually accept transfers into the 3rd year class. In your case, you're already in 3rd year so i dont know how that would work for you to transfer for the 1 year (assuming you're about to start 3rd year now)

I'd be willing to transfer in as a third year and start the rotations. Anyone have any ideas? Do you know any transfer students at your school and what they did? Thank you.

Yes, I would consider transferring to a DO school at this point. I'm open to pretty much anything that will still let me be a doctor. I would really prefer not to remain at my current school though. I could cite personal reasons for wanting to transfer theoretically.

I wonder what makes it so painfully unbearable that you are willing to give up that much just to leave your current place...

enlighten us if you may 😕 appreciate it!

I made a thread awhile ago about my situation, but briefly, I got in trouble for crying once in class. I lost the appeal last week. I know it seems unlikely another school would accept me as a transfer, but apparently I'm still in good standing and otherwise my performance has been okay. It's too upsetting for me to want to stay here.

I just read your other thread and it is ridiculous what happened to you. Touro is in San Fran and it is the DO school there, they might sympathize with your situation plus according to your USMLE scores it sounds like you would be a great student for any DO school to have but they might ask you to take the COMLEX step 1. The sooner you start talking to other schools the better chance you have of transferring.

Just realize that unless lawyers get involved to have the disciplinary mark removed,I have no idea if this would work or not, even if you do transfer to another school residencies will still see your record from your previous school. They might take it as a negative that you ran from it.

My advice would be to stick it out for the next year and in your 4th year if things still are bad do a lot of away rotations with programs that you are interested in. Doing this will allow them to get to know you and better understand your situation.

Sorry, but you don't know what you're talking about. No DO school is going to take him at this point unless he's already in a DO school. He hasn't taken any OMM, which is what you learn first and second year and is required to graduate from DO school. DO schools will only take transfers from other DO schools because of the OMM requirement.

If he wants to start from first year again, maybe, but otherwise, I think you guys need to stop filling his head with nonsense about DO schools being lucky to have him. They would be a lot harder to get into, under these circumstances.

Yeah, doing DO rotations without ever doing OMM might be an issue. Not that the Op would need it to do rotations, but it is something they are required to learn before entering clinical years.

OP, dont forget also that a transfer involves both schools so not only would aonther school have to be willing to take you, most likely that school would want some sort of sign-off from your present dean that 1)you are in good standing and 2) you are not leaving for some crazy behavior. Are you sure you can get such a recommendation from your present school?

It might not be fair, but you basically need the blessing of your present school to transfer out.
And like i said before, you would have to provide a better reason than "i dont like it here".

You just can't graduate DO school without OMM and they do that in the first two years, which the OP has already passed. And if I'm not mistaken, all three parts of the COMLEX also have OMM. You can't be licensed as a DO without taking the COMLEX and you need OMM for the COMLEX. Basically, DO school is out. It's not an option.

We're saying the same thing

I'm sort of not getting this. Is the OP getting kicked out of medical school for crying in class?

He/she addressed it in another thread and i didnt get it there either.
I think the words "unproffesional and disruptive" were thrown in there at some point in the explanation

Sorry, completely didn't think about that. These guys are right OMM would keep you from transferring to a DO school.

If you can stay at your school then I would say to just stay. You need to ask yourself if it is worth it to become a physician. If you stick it out then in two years you will be in residency and will have this behind you. Keep your ultimate goal in mind, if you want it bad enough you won't let this stop you.
