Hey everyone,
Just had a few questions and looking for some insight.
1) Can DO students after year 1 or 2 transfer to any MD school in the USA? Does anyone know of any success stories in this regard? What schools are more likely to accept such transfer?
2) When attempting to transfer from DO to MD, what criteria is used? Just year 1 marks or do the undergrad GPA or MCAT also play a factor?

Thanks

1: yes its possible.. However unless you have a real reason for doing this.. no you wont get to do it and your dean of the school will be really pissed at you( you class will probably be pissed at you too)
2: no criteria.. if your being persecuted or got raped at the school and have traumatic issue's at the school then you can transfer. (hypothetical info) Otherwise no.. your chances at transfer are non-existent.

Sorry for being blunt but transfering from medical school to medical school is serious, and doesnt happen very often. Most medical schools are against this primarily because it degrades and lowers the degree (DO).
However if I do know that Drexel accepts people.

This is so rare as to not be worth seriously considering as an option. In the one case I've heard of, the transfer was permitted due to a well-documented family crisis. Of course, if your stats and experience wouldn't have gotten you into the MD school in the first place, why would they consider you later?

Even MD to MD school transfers are rare.

most MD schools will not take DO students as transfers.

And while I am not against DO, I am happy that DO's rarely can transfer into US MD schools. Because MD schools are much harder to gain admission into as compared to DO schools (primarily because of MCAT), why should it become easier for DO students to get into MD schools when MD students like myself and others worked incredibly hard to gain admission into MD schools.... And most DO students tried for MD schools at first but failed to gain admission so went DO route...

I mean, I really find admission to DO school a joke.... assuming one is a science major... I just feel like DO schools have some type of stigma against non-science premed majors but that is entirely my belief without any factual data... but an average MCAT of 27-28 is a joke... seriously... while US MD schools now approximately need a 31+ and there is a big difference between a 31 and a 27... I know someone who got into a DO school with a 25 😕... I cant imagine anyone getting into an MD school with a 25 MCAT

but my rambling again........ anyways yea dont count on transferring from a DO school to an MD school... I think all the MD schools I have been accepted to accept transfer applications from only OTHER LCME ACCREDITED SCHOOLS... DO schools are not accredited by LCME

Nonscience major.. your seriously dumb.. carib med school applicants get accepted as transfer students. They arent even american schools..

ok and your banned now.. and the system works -.-

hallelujah, finally that imbecile got banned. It makes me wonder what the schools that accepted him saw ... geez.

Anyway, thread at hand ... no, I don't think transferring between schools is very likely without a really good reason. I know a person who transferred to be closer to her husband but even then I think there was some string pulling.
