I attended a relatively good undergraduate school for my first three semesters where I was pursuing a political science major. I transferred spring of my sophomore year to another school of equal repute and changed to premed. However, after a year here, I feel miserable and would much rather return to my old school. While I'm doing well in my classes, I know I would be happier back at my old school and would do just as well. My only concern is that med schools will look at my transferring twice and think I can't commit. Is this realistic?

Depends on your GPA. If it's consistent at both schools, then it doesn't matter.

I am not sure... I don't know about medical school, but when I was applying to college (although this was like 10 years ago) I remember my college counselor saying if you have transferred more than once in high school colleges might be suspicious that you can't adapt and you don't own up to your own choices. Also, it's generally a red flag in your resume says you can't stay at one job for at least a year. I would assume the same for medical school. I am not an adcom though, so I'll wait to see what the adcoms here say.

If you can articulately explain your reasons for transferring then by all means go where you're happiest. But count on an interview question about it, from at least one or two schools. Not a red flag but probably a curiosity that some adcoms may want to know about

Yes, they might. What were your reasons for transferring and what are your reasons for wanting to go back? Any chance you could 'get happy' at your current school?

I talked to my pre-med advisor about this exact same thing today. I also am a sophomore PS student trying to go back to my old institution. He said as long as you have the numbers, it's not a big deal. Obviously know why you're going back and be able to articulate it, though.
