Transferring Between PsyD Programs

Is this well received or must one have a good reason for doing this? This relates specifically and only to PsyD programs. To b honest, and to cut my chances of not getting in somewhere next year, I am considering applying to Argosy and then applying to transfer out next year, hopefully to my number 1 program. The Argosy program is APA accredited.

I know that transferring Ph.D programs is a lot more complicated because of match and research mentors. However, I would imagine transferring within Psy.D programs is also not well received. Argosy would likely not be willing or able to provide you with a reference. From the perspective of the institution you will be applying to, they will see you were not committed to Argosy and may wonder what would make you committed to their program. At that point, you will have not had ample opportunity to demonstrate that you can handle graduate level work and, in fact, trying to transfer may be a red flag that you can't handle it.

Transferring at the doctoral level is incredibly difficult. You are likely to lose many credits (and thus, money and time) during the process. If you don't get into a PsyD program this time, I would reapply next year. During the year in between, work on getting experience, better letters of rec, improving GRE scores, etc

You shouldn't plan to transfer because you'll most likely set yourself up to lose credits, time, and money. If you don't get into where you want to go, re-apply or look for alternative plans.

Agreed. It's unlikely you'd be able to transfer from Argosy to a top PsyD program. If your goal is a top PsyD program, then I'd suggest doing what you can to get in to one from the get-go (even if this means taking another year to do so).

Don't Do It. It is FAR better to not be in a program than to be in a program that you don't belong in and have no desire to finish.
