I was really unhappy with my match result, and I've been wondering if residents ever transfer from one neurology program to another or if transferring is usually for people changing specialties. Are residents viewed negatively if they transfer within the same specialty? I'd really hate to burn any bridges at my current program. Also, do people usually only transfer for exceptional circumstances such as a significant other in another city, etc? At this point, I want to give this program a chance and see how I feel in a few months but was more curious than anything else.

Any thoughts?

Yeah, it happens, but it is not common. You'd better have a decent reason that appeals both to the program you are leaving and the program you are trying to join. Remember, you matched there, you are under contract with them. You should give them a chance before you go burning bridges.
