Transferring help please

Honor's program aside, go where you like it best as long as you can explain your decision convincingly to potential interviewers.

I'd go back to the small private school just because I genuinely liked it there and miss it. Not for any honors program.

It's not necessarily bad to go back since you have a good GPA at both schools, and I don't think it is flaky if this is a one time thing. After all, you're not going to a 3rd college. If asked, just be honest about it. I don't think anyone will reproach you for seeking a better education, and it's not like you will be able to be transferring in med school.

I transferred after my freshman year from a small private college to a bigger university for their good honors program and more opportunities. I have just found out my small private college now has their own honors program and I really want to transfer back because I loved it there. My family doesn't think this will look good to the admissions committee and will ultimately hurt me when I apply. Is this a viable argument on their part? I do have good EC's and an ok gpa (3.75). They said it will show committees I am not grounded and will leave on the tip of a hat. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

What's the financial benefit for the particular honors program you're considering?

Thanks for all of y'alls responses! There is no financial difference between the two schools. The small private is 29k more but I get 29k more in grants so I end up paying the same. And true I was hoping since it was to a college I first went to I can say that since it became more academically challenging and able to prepare me well for medical school I decided to go back.

Are your grants at that school contingent upon your staying in the honors program? If not, I would go back to your old school and quit it so you can take whichever classes you like.

No, the grants are just based on your GPA SAT/ACT stuff. Nothing having to do with the honors program. The state school honors program is just more "well known"

Ok. Well, then here's my full suggestion.

Go back to your old school if that's what would really make you happy. Honors programs will not add anything significant to your degree, so if you love being in this particular honors program, stay! If you don't, get out so that you can take whatever classes you want and not worry about the special requirements for the honors program.

Schools use honors programs to attract bright students, but unless those honors programs confer some sort of financial benefit OR the students find them more rewarding OR they confer some other kind of tangible benefit I'm not aware of, they don't add anything particularly interesting to your degree. Medical schools, on the whole, care more about your GPA than anything else (tied with your MCAT score, of course), regardless of what program you're in.

In addition, regardless of your honors program status, you can list this scholarship that you received on your application. It will let any admissions committee know that while you probably could have attended another college, the one you were at thought you would be a great enough student that it threw money at you to get you to stay. That means something, and admissions committees know that, even if it doesn't impact every admissions decision they make.
