Transferring in Texas

Currently, I am taking classes at a community college and I need some help deciding where to transfer to.I've applied to UT, UTD, A&M, St.Marys and Austin College. UTD is where I really like to go, but I worry that it doesn't have enough name recognition outside of North Texas. So, would it be more advantageous for me to attend UT or A&M? I guess what I really want know is if going to UTD will close doors that UT or A&M could open.

School name is just one part of the admissions process. UT or A&M would be better than UTD(although I hear UTD is getting alot better), but the difference is much less than your GPA, MCAT, and ECs. Pick the school where you think you will do the best academically and be able to get the most involved within the school.

UTD was pretty well-represented at all of my interviews. I dont think going there would hurt. I dont even think any schools gave a rat's tail about my major either.

Go to the school where you think you will thrive. It's your grades and extracurriculars that will get you into medical school. We have tons of UTD kids at UTSW, I assume it's the same at all the medical schools across Texas.

Go to the place you love. What you lose in name recognition you'll gain in two areas:
1.) You GPA might be better because you'll be happier (and if there's less name recognition, it might even be easier!)
2.) And this is the MOST IMPORTANT: You'll have more fun! You only get to do college once. Go have a great time.

Go to the school that fits you better for whatever reason. Don't let the name of the school throw you off.

You can look at some of my posts on other threads and see a little more of my story, but to put it in a nutshell, I started once upon a time at UT-Austin, and finished much later at UTSA. Because of my prior time at UT-Austin and because of its reputation, I was, at first, very concerned that my degree would lack the "name recognition", as you put it, if I couldn't go back to UT-Austin. But the HPO advisor at UTSA put it very succinctly one day when I inquired as to the number of graduates UTSA puts into medical school. He told me, "we put in as many students as are qualified." That was no BS. Work hard, and do the best you can in terms of GPA, MCAT, etc. A great application is a great application no matter the school from which you get your degree. Do not let the UT-Dallas name make you think you have less of a chance at medical school.

I, too, can attest that UT-D was well represented at all my interviews. And for what it's worth, UT-D is getting a lot more respect in terms of "name" nowadays.

I went to UTD, so here is my 2 cents. (I also transferred from CC in the Dallas area)
If your planning to apply in Texas and want to go to a Texas med school UTD is well represented in medical school students in Texas. Out of the state, I don't know but the school is well on its way to achieving tier 1 status. Most of what people in and out of the state know of UTD is that it is a big research school. This is especially true with nanotechnology research. They have a Nobel Laureate who got their prize in nanotechnology.
The school has a great premed advising department as well as programs aimed to help students with science classes. Also from what I remember, UTD is the state school in Texas that requires the highest SAT score. That won't matter to you as much, because you are transferring.
I can go on about the positives but here is a few negatives.
Parking is hell on earth at that school. This year to make up for budget cuts, they increased enrollment by 20%. They did not expand parking or food resources, as such the cafeteria ran out of food almost every day.
Cost is about $5k a semester if you take a full load.
