The university I've been attending for the past 4 years is ridiculously small...it only has 6,300 students.

Plain and simple: my current university is not offering a sufficient amount of biology courses next semester...I've taken almost all of the ones they are offering, and I need to get my science GPA up...so I am thinking of transferring to a different university which has a much broader selection of biology courses for me to take. Think this is a smart move? My science GPA will be 3.11 after this semester ends. I take my DAT and apply to schools this July for the 2012 cycle. If I don't get in this time, I want to make sure I do everything I can to get in for the 2013, which is why I am considering changing schools.

I would transfer to a larger and more competitive school. Your sGPA is really low, so those science courses are going to be a big boost for you if you improve.

If you transfer won't your new insititute make you retake some of your major courses there? I thought about transfering once but I was told I would have to repeat a lot of courses because the school wanted me to take their courses. That would've put me a year or two behind so I said forget that!

I would take the required classes at a CC while concurrently taking a few science/hard courses at your school. Cheaper and no hassle with paperwork.

Although this may limit which schools you can apply to...

lol
i am transferring to another, but MUCH BIGGER 4-year university. I am doing so, because they will take all of my credits, and they offer a broad selection of biology courses. i'm not trasnferring to a CC.
I was just curious what you all thought about this decision...is it smart or not? and...one more question: Will this affect the GPA that dental schools will see (if I don't get in the 2012 cycle, and have to re-apply for 2013 cycle)???

6,300 students is considered small?

My university has about 1,500 students per class, adding to about 6000 undergrads total, and all this time I thought I was going to a medium-sized university 😕

Don't forget about the importance of good letters of recommendation from your professors. Can you just take a couple of science classes at another university over the summer?

~39,000 here.

Sounds like a UC

To OP, what I meant was to stay at your original university and take CC courses concurrently. So maybe enroll full-time at your university (12-13 units) then take another 4-5 units at your local CC. That way you don't need to go through the hassle of transferring to a different 4 year.
