Transferring schools?

I wonder if there are people out there who have transferred schools. I am a second year student at NYCOM and thinking about transferring to UMDNJ-SOM, but I cannot find any information about the differences between hospital affiliates, which is better, so on and so forth. Could any shine any light on this question?

It is generally pretty tough to transfer, but sometimes it is doable. Generally depends on your reason for transferring. If you spouse has a job transfer, or something of the like, you can sometimes get it done.

Don't know about hospital affiliates of the 2 schools. Sorry.

Usually the only time schools will accept transfers is after second year, as the new school usually wants to see what you get on the boards before they take you. By that time, you might as well just stay at nycom b/c the rotations at nycom, from what i've heard and seen, are significantly more diverse. NYCOM actually had a few students transfer into the third year class this year, so it is possible to transfer, but you have to keep on top of the paperwork. As DrMom said, having a valid reason such as a spouse's job transfer helps out tremendously.

More diverse at NYCOM?

I start nycom on monday and from what I've read and heard from the nycom people i agree w/ oceandoc. NYCOM's rotations really cant be beat. This isnt a knock against UMDNJ, it's a fine school, but southern NJ doesnt really have the top-notch sites that the NY area has. NYCOM rotates at affiliated sites of NYU, Einstein, Downstate, Columbia, Yale, Stonybrook, etc. As far as diversity of the patient population, I think the NYC metro area takes the prize.

I also would like to transfer from UHS-COM to TCOM. Unfortunately, I don't have much information about it either. If there is anyone who has transferred between these two schools or other schools, please inform me. Thanks...
