Currently a first year MD student in the US on a leave of absence... my family is moving abroad and there's not much incentive for me to stay in the US. I was thinking of transferring or restarting at a school in Australia with the intention of eventually practicing there and I realized there's a very limited amount of info on here for students in this situation.

Some of my stats... MCAT: 29N (Physics: 11, Reading stuff: 8, Org/Bio: 10... english was my 3rd language!), GPA: 3.80/3.94science, MD GPA: 3.3 (middle of class). FAA commerical pilot and flight instructor (which I want to convert over to Australian standards).

Other options I wanted to consider were Euro 4-year programs recognized in the US that would keep the door open for the USMLE's and "maybe" practicing in the US eventually... but I think that's for another forum!

While its not impossible, it is certainly very unusual to transfer into an Australian school from a US one. I think it would be difficult to compare courses and while I would encourage you to talk to the schools individually, I would be very surprised if any would consider it. In saying that, you could certainly apply to start a graduate program again and would be competitive with your scores.

Depending on how you define the term, the US either doesn't 'recognize' programs, or any program recognized by its home country is equally recognized. In other words, the door would be just as open for the USMLE no matter which school you went to. How well each helped you prepare for the USMLE is a different matter though.
