Hello-
I've searched through some of the posts and read things about med schools accepting transfer students. I was just wondering if this is something that happens a lot? Why do students want to transfer? Is it b/c they aren't happy with their school, and if this is the case are there particular schools that people try to transfer out of? I've seen things about people tranferring from MD to MD programs, DO to MD programs, and foreign programs to US MD programs. Is it possible to transfer from a dental program to a MD program?

I think transfers are typically allowed only if there are extenuating circumstances like getting married (i.e. your spouse lives in another state and you have to move there) or if you have to move somewhere to care for a seriously ill relative. I'm pretty sure it's not like undergrad, where you can just transfer if you don't like it.

It's really hard to transfer but often there are only 1 or 2 slots open at some schools. Most schools don't even have a slot open and i even read on websites "we do not accept transfers."
