I'm starting to get a little bit worried because I haven't heard from a good chunk of programs yet. I thought I would hear more since the Dean's letter is now out but haven't heard much. Anyone else having the same concerns? Am I overreacting?

I applied to 11 prelims & 4 transitionals and have only heard from 4 prelims!

Any insight?

If you're going for any osteopathic internships, you'll have no problems getting any post-match, except for places that are highly sought after (read:easy) or have many popular residencies/fellowships.

My own institution, which has both osteopathic internship/residency plus allopathic transitionals, only matched me and 1 other person for the internship while the other 14 osteopaths signed post match. 🙄

I've applied to about 21 prelim IM programs and only heard from 6 (one rejected me). So yeah, I'm a little worried too...but I'm sure I'll get one of the 5 I have interviews for.

I did my Prelim IM at UVA Roanoke Carilion Program.
Excellent training, even before the 80 hr work week it wasn't bad. It was very socialable when I was there and the staff physicians were awesome.

It's probably worth a try...when I looked it seemed that many of the prelim programs accepted applications through december. I just added a bunch a couple of weeks ago, and I got interviews from a couple right away. I'm still waiting on the majority, though...even the ones I applied to earlier. Who know that getting a prelim/TY spot would be the hard part?!?!

prelims and ty's are more competitive then u might first think
there are plenty of other specialties applying-rads, optho, etc.
schmoes who don't know what they are doing yet etc.
lot's of do's need to complete a rotating year especially
in certain states even if they are going to categorical programs
as pgy-1 afterwards. it can't hurt to apply to a few extra safety
programs since med school classes seem to be getting bigger
and bigger but residency positions numbers probably aren't
growing as quickly! what are these deans doing??
and as already said, if you haven't heard it can't
hurt to call to find out if your application is complete and under review.
just don't call every day! ;-)

Just for fun, when you're waiting for the interviews, listen to the Rads/Rad Onc/Ophtho etc people talk. It's good entertainment to hear them comparing board scores, interview offers etc. When the PM&R people ask each other about programs, it's more of a "hey, were the people there nice?" sort of thing. For the others, they seemed to be asking because they wanted to let everyone else know that they were interviewing at Harvard, Hopkins etc.

If you haven't heard yet, certainly call to check. Some prelim places don't interview you if you're out of state 'cause they don't want to waste a spot on someone that they don't think will go there. If they know you're seriously interested, it may help.
