Transparency in Application Process

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
As vague as your question is, I'd say, there's very little to zero transparency in this application process with ADCOMs. They literally do what they want and can get away with it. There is no such thing as a safety school, and you can never be too sure about what school you'll get into, until you actually get into it.

That's why, whenever someone posts a "chance me" thread about "can I get into X school?", I refuse to respond to that because I'd very bluntly write "no." You never know what each school is looking for during a certain cycle, during a certain month, or even, on a certain day. I actually think a lot of it by chance/luck.

Sorry for the vague response, too. But applications are a grueling process, especially for those poor applicants who have to reapply or had to deal with the heartbreak of not getting into their top choice, or even any school.

Good luck though, and just hope for the best--it'll all eventually work out 🙂

there has never been transparency in any kind of admissions process

Im starting to miss the threads about "what are my chances, I have 25 DAT and 3.8 GPA"

I think tufts did an excellent job keeping applicants/interviewees in the loop on numbers. Really appreciated that. Sad to have turned down the school

I thoroughly enjoyed the Dec. 1st transparency on the AADSAS portal which was quickly deleted until that following Monday 🙂

That was a nice surprise for sure

Dental school admissions = completely...opaque. Not just this cycle though. How boring would the entire process be if they gave out the "magic equation" (UNLV kind of did) to what gets you into school? It's just like a job interview...they don't give you an 83%/B on you as an employee.

Uh, I would LOVE that! It would save people a lot of money and time. And, I could sleep easier at night! I'd take boring any day over an outrageous amount of stress. Our futures are on the line, here... It's not a game!

A few schools tried to be as transparent as possible. OSU let me know the exact position on the waitlist, the number of people they were taking from OOS and in-state that year, as well as historical precedent for where I fell compared to previous years. They did a pretty good job of keeping me informed. They actually encouraged communication.

That's in comparison to SUNY Buffalo that refused to tell me anything and would usually seem annoyed when I tried to ask the same questions I asked OSU's admissions office.
