trauma in EM

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
In the community hospital I rotate thru - the surgeons rarely get involved in the severe traumas - They have very little interest unless they will be admitting the pt. The ED attending does all the fun stuff ( intubation, chest tubes, lines etc) and then transfers them out by helicopter

Level I trauma centers with no surgery residencies...

At least here in Pennsylvania, all Level I trauma centers must have a surgical residency.

PA is kind of an exception in that Trauma Centers here are accredited by the Pennsylvania Trauma Sytems Foundation. However, I know that at least some other states have the same requirment.

Texas does. Thus at any residency that is found at a level I center, you will share the work with surgery.

Do they have to have their own residency in house or just have surgery residents rotating through the hospital?
