trauma surgery info?

does anyone know of any good websites where i can find information on trauma surgery? specifically:

residency/shift length
best trauma centers
best trauma schools (if applicable)
where one would need to graduate in his/her class to get a residency

any response would be appreciated. thanks!

"trauma surgeons" are usually general surgeons covering the ER or general surgeons who did a Trauma Fellowship after their 5 years of general. There is no residency in "Trauma Surgery" as such. What you want is a med school and general surgery program at a busy urban county hospital with a lot of penetrating trauma. Better focus on med school first though.

The University of Maryland has a nationally known shock trauma center. I go there and every hour or so, they are flying people in by helicopter. We have an entire building/department dediciated to doing shock trauma, and a separate emergency room in the regular hospital.

Carp is right. From what I can tell, there are only fellowships in Trauma Surg, no residencies. Apparently, once you finish your res. in general surg, you can do fellowships in a number of areas, including (I believe), pediatric surgery, trauma surgery, hand surgery, and some others.

Neurosurgery and orthopedics are their own, separate residencies.

Not sure about cardio-thoracic--post-general fellowship or separate residency?
