Hi guys,

Are there many opportunities to travel in psychiatry? I imagine a large group of bespectacled, tweedy, pipe-smoking intellectuals sitting around in a crowded university hall in Vienna debating the utility vs. validity of the DSM.

Well ok, maybe that's a fantasy. But I would still like to know, what travel opportunities are there in psych besides yearly conferences at Disney World?

Well, that's boring. Try drinking ayahuasca in the Amazon.

The American Psychiatric Association holds 2 major meetings per year, both in major cities. There is also the private Psychiatric Congress; this year this annual CME meeting is being held in Las Vegas.

There is also the World Psychiatric Congress.

If you get a name in Forensics, especially in a certain area, you would likely be asked to testify all over the nation. For example, if you were the "go to" expert of child custody, you would likely have the opportunity to travel LOTS. Another area that is worthwhile is becoming a drug rep professional. Instead of meeting daily with local docs about Abilify, etc, you would have the opportunity to fly around the nation holding large luncheon/dinner meetings with university groups about a certain drug.
