Travel while J-1 waiber being processed?

Hi all,

Does anyone know if you can safely travel WHILE your J-1 waiver application is being processed?

Obviously, one should NOT re-apply for a J1 visa stamp when already in the process of obtaining a waiver (since the consulate officer is not going to buy into the fact that you have no immigration intent).

I am referring to travel on your non-expired J1 after the waiver application has been submitted, but not yet approved and re-entering into the US on that J1.

Correct answer: Discuss with your visa lawyer. Don't have a visa lawyer? Then you've already made a major mistake.

Free answer: It's a very bad idea. Once you initiate the waiver process, it's unclear what the status of your J1 visa is. You might be denied re-entry to the US. Unless your visa lawyer tells you otherwise.
