I've been accepted into McMaster Life Sciences and Nursing for undergraduate. Before I actually talk about my concerns, I would like to let you know that I have a hearing disability and for that reason, I was taking a reduced course load in high school. Now that the deadline of making my decision as to which undergrad to attend is approaching fast, I would like to ask if there are any exceptions for students with disabilities in terms of admission (particularly in Canada)? Do I have to take a full course load to be even considered for med schools?
The second concern is that I have trouble deciding which undergraduate I should choose. I would love to go for Life Sciences but I realized that the job opportunities after the undergrad are limited should I get rejected from med. If I choose this undergrad and don't make it to medicine, I can go into research in neuroscience but what's holding me back from making this decision is the competitiveness of the graduate schools. Therefore this has made me want to go for Nursing (as an undergrad) as a back-up plan. I could work as a nurse for a few years and then apply for med schools. Even if I major in something that I love, I have to take the job prospects into consideration as well.
I honestly don't know what to do in this situation. I can go into Nursing so that I can have a job in case I don't make it to med school (or even change my mind). Into my first year, if I really hate it, I can switch to Life Sciences. It's that I don't want to miss this opportunity of nursing if I change my mind later in Life Sciences and get rejected by nursing schools (as back-up plans).
Any advice? Your time is much appreciated.
