Hi guys,

I was wondering how you would rank Tulane, LSU Shreveport, and Little Rock, and how they compare training wise, number of surgeries, chances for fellowship, etc.

Is Tulane on probation? They mentioned nothing about this during the interview but I read some SDN posts that suggest they're on probation. Any idea?

Thanks a lot

i don't know anything about little rock, but i think i would rank tulane above lsu-shreveport. i've heard more positive things about tulane than lsu. if you go to the acgme site (http://www.acgme.org/adspublic/), you can search for which programs are accredited.

BTW, other programs in probation:

-[2403522112] New York Medical College at St Vincent's Hospital and Medical Center of New York Program
-[2405121158] Virginia Commonwealth University Health System Program
-[2405621161] University of Wisconsin Program

I personally have heard much better things about lsu-shreveport and little rock than tulane. I believe the surgical numbers are great at both those places, and I've heard the overall training is as well. As far as Tulane goes, I've just heard to stay away from new orleans if possible for training right now....hope that helps.

Little Rock is clearly the best of the 3. The other two are much further down the list. You could make a case of Tulane being higher or lower than LSU Shreveport. I don't have much post-hurricane Tulane knowledge.

Our program was recently notified that we will continue to enjoy FULL accreditation after a major RRC site visit at the end of 2005.

I wanted to mention this after reading the misleading posting on this thread that one should avoid training in ophthalmology in New Orleans.

The LSU program in Southern Louisiana is definately alive and kicking -- and as far as the opinion of the residents here, is better now than it has been in recent past!
