Hey all,
Basically, I'm studying for the MCAT this JUne 13th, and I've been having trouble focusing. Normally, if i wasn't taking classes this semester it would be a little easier to focus, but i am getting very easily distracted now.

Another thing is that when a song pops in my head it takes all my attention and I can't get it out of my mind. What do I do?

thats the way the MCAT is... separates people who can take the time to sit down, study, and cut out the rest of the world's distractions from those that can't. Just gotta sit down, turn off your phone, lock your door, and put a few hours in every day.

Check out the Adderall thread, lol!!

No thanks to Adderall or study drugs they give you a false sense of accomplishment and in the long run damage your nerve cells. Who wants to do that?

You sure.

The first one is free.

No one will know and you can stop whenever you need to. This will just get you over the hump. 🙂

This is when Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds should have said, "NO".

Yeah I am having trouble with this too. Sometimes, it takes me 3 hours to do like 3 passages... which is a real issue. I only have 2 months left. Bah.

seems like you need a bit of pressure to get you going. Why don't you start slow a few hours a week and build up by April. Really hone in on your test taking skills and make sure you read the questions carefully.

Good luck

I found taking a complete break helps refocus. When I was starting to lose my concentration, I took a two day break without anything MCAT related. I came back feeling refreshed and somewhat bad for not studying so I hit the books. After I was done, I opened it and started studying 😀 (I'm joking about the hitting the book part, fire works better). Seriously, take a complete break from the MCAT, it may help you.

The song thing happens to me too! especially when I am reading verbal passages.
take a practice Full length exam and see how you do.
I did horrible. Believe me, it is a real big motivator and made me want to focus.
also, Make a schedule and reward yourself after hours of studying each day! :0)

ummm.. i can understand lack of motivation for a specific class, etc... but the MCAT? you realize how important this exam is, right?

find a nice quiet place in the library, turn your cell phone off, and get to hammering. take breaks for meals and keep yourself hydrated. exercise regularly. there is no secret

Kill two birds with one stone: Sing MCAT songs!
