Hey im having trouble with the why md/phd? essay....

.I want to talk about my experience in lab and what has helped confirm that I like the process of scientific research...but I really don't know what to say.

. .I have 2 years of research experience, but unfortunately I was never put in the position to take control of my own projects, but I have rather been assigned to working on other people's projects. I always tried to understand the point of what I was doing, but I don't know how to support why i would enjoy doing research with the experiences I have.

This year, I will have a chance to write my own thesis and have my own project...but I don't have that experience yet to talk about in an essay. any suggestions....do I even have to talk about my research experience in this essay?

.

Not necessarily.

Look into the mirror (you don't have to do this part) and ask yourself the question and answer it honestly to yourself. That's what you should write about. Maybe a clinical experience? An experience with someone who has an untreatable disease? An MD/PhD role model? Does your current experience in the lab have clinical relevance?

My essay did include my research experience, but that is what really guided my decision. My thesis project started off answering a very basic question (my desire to do a PhD) and unexpectedly ended up answering some interesting clinical questions (my desire to do the MD).

You're also treading in some unsafe water as it's getting rather late to get in your primaries. At this point it will take at least a month to get verified. You should think about submitting soon and DEFINITELY working on your secondaries (find them on the forum) while you're waiting for verification.

my primary was submitted 3 weeks ago, im still waiting to be verified. I just need to finish my MD/Phd essays, so I'm not that bad.

I definitely have an MD/Phd role model, named Vs. Ramachandran...i just love how he uses science to answer some very awesome philosophical questions. I just don't know how I would articulate that into what I want to do.

The reason I want to do research is simply because I love learning. I think the brain is the most interesting organ, and I think its so interesting to learn/treat human behavior. I don't know what else to say or how to provide examples that support my interest.

Well, elaborate and turn that thought into an essay. Talk about Ramachandran's mirror box experiments and it's wide implications in medicine. Describe the philosophical questions that you think are interesting and how the MD/PhD can provide a framework to address these questions......there's plenty to write about!!!

I'm doing the same thing you are, but I submitted August 6th and I got verified on Friday, so just giving you a heads up you should be verified soon, too. I'm not done my essays yet so I'm panicking now lol XD
