True that UCI/UCLA are stopping DO rotations??

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
UCI and UC Davis do not take DO medical students. I don't know about ucla.

Vsas is a service 4 year med students, MDs and DOs, use to set up electives. Not every hospital uses VSAS, but many do. When you search for a particular elective, you can filter which ones are open to DOs and which are not. UCI offers many electives, but none to DOs. UCLA doesn't use VSAS.

one of my classmates, from touro-NY, matched IM at UC-Irvine this year; I think she rotated there as well.

Just because a place doesn't let you rotate as a med student doesn't mean they won't take you as a resident. University of Colorado charges DOs $4000 to rotate at their hospital, but they still take DOs every year.

Lol this is pretty funny considering UCI's history.

I read this in another thread and I was wondering if this was actually true??

"SDN just told me something. But I'm not sure how true it is. See, I'm intellectually skeptical...

...Hang on, Imma go ask SDN."

I read it from one person on SDN on a totally irrelevant thread who definitely did not represent the SDN in its entirety, but now I am asking SDN and making a thread out of it to see what others may know about it.

I know...thats what I said! :meanie:

And, Im just pointing out the slight humor in not believing something written on a forum and then using the same source to find the truth.

Wow, that is stupid

My thoughts exactly

Is there a trend of fewer and fewer placing taking DO's for electives? Or is it just UCI? Either way, it sucks. Once again California shows us how progressive and laid back it is.

Probably not a trend.

If you are wondering about UCI, one of the DO schools in California was paying UCI less money to take their students than other schools were paying to do electives. UCI eventually asked for more money and the two schools couldn't come to an agreement. The silliest thing about this was they punished all DOs for one school being cheap. Source, a 4th year DO student who was on the last rotation they took DOs and obviously it was a topic of hot discussion for the DO students rotating there. Also we asked a few UCI students if they knew anything (this was at a conference) and they said thats what they had heard... so who knows

But they definitely still take DO applications and im sure will continue to take DO students into their residency programs
