one of my friends told me that he saw on some life insurance form that radiation oncologists tend to have a shorter life expenctancy compared to other doctors. it's not by much though. he couldn't produce the source on the spot. has anyone heard of this or was he pulling my leg?

my vote goes for leg pulling. id be astounded if someone actually did any such data on radoncs. lord knows the sample is small.

Im sure they do take a higher radiation dose than the average person, but im also sure its negligible.

depends upon how often you fly

Seriously. If anything I would expect the average dose to be LOWER than the average physician. We're not in the OR every day like interventional cardiologists using fluroscopy with reckless abandon. 🙂

Plus, we are hypervigilant about monitoring our monthly radiation doses.

geeze some of the surgeons and IR guys are exposed so friggin often.
