Hey everyone, its only a month away til the application cycle begins. I am trying to figure what schools to apply for considering myself in a strange situation right now with my GPA and DAT score😕. Here's an overview of my stats:

Graduated from Ohio State U (Dec 2013) with BS in biochem and minor in bio.
*** will be considered ohio resident and south carolina resident (moved to SC after college started).
overall GPA 3.27
sGPA 3.24
*** low but with a strong upward trend during the last two years
DAT:
AA 24,
TS 24 (BIO 22, CHEM 28, OCHEM 22)
PAT 22
RC 26
QR 22
over 100 hrs of shadowing (still doing it!)
approx. 100 hrs of volunteering at a university hospital
worked part time in high school and college
currently working full-time as a restaurant manager
couldn't get any research experience in college due to my bad GPA.

1. Ohio State
2. CWRU
3. MUSC
4. UoP
5. USC
6. NYU
7. Boston U
8. Nova
9. Columbia (favors high DAT???)
10.Tufts
11.U of Detroit
12.Temple U
13.U of Louisville (OOS friendly???)
14.UPenn (no sure if its too out of reach for me)
15.U of Michigan (OOS friendly???)
16.LECOM
17.Midwestern U
18.AT Still U
19.Marquette U
20.Western U of Health Sciences
21.U of Connecticut
22.U of New England (anyone knows anything about this school?)
23.Creighton U
24.UNLV
25.Rutger U
26.UTHSC
27.Roseman U

I know this is a long list but would anyone suggest which schools I should add/take off from my list? All suggestions are appreciated.😛

Best of Luck to Everyone!!!!!

I would cut ASDOH, UConn, Creighton, UTHSC, and Columbia to start. You have almost every private school on there but would you really attend any of them? Any you don't want?
Thx, i do realize that I have nearly all the privates on my list. Do Columbia sometime accept students with high dat and low gpa?

Not sure about your comment about Columbia, but I heard they favor research, so I would take them off my list.

Agreed with taking out A.T Still - they highly favor community service. UConn is also a tough school to get into if you are OOS. I would also take out Louisville unless you want to spend the money to apply there. They are OOS friendly, but I feel like they are one of the tougher OOS friendly schools to get into.

But dang, if you're applying to 20+ schools, you are gonna burn a big hole in your wallet.

OP, if you want to leave Columbia on the list, it's fine. They don't require research (I had none). As for that list, I'd cut it down. That's a lot of schools.

Looks like I learned something new then. 🙂

damn...that's a lot of schools. I agree with Troy...if you want to leave Columbia in there, that's fine. Your DAT scores should get you some looks. But just curious at how you can use two states for instate residency. I thought on the application you could only pick one state.

everyone needs to add uconn...on the off chance you get in here, you'll be glad you have a school that gives in state tuition and offers a rock solid program...it's probably the best option as an incoming oos student...to be honest, it's kind of unlikey op would get in.

Yeah, I'm technically in state for South Carolina but because I graduated from high school in ohio, I would also be considered in state when applying to osu ( I got it confirmed with the osu admission office yesterday).

Yeah, it is a big list. Im concerned about not getting in this cycle, that's why I wanna apply broadly to maximize my chance.

While it's true that Columbia likes high DAT, but your gpa is too low and your ECs are not exactly stellar.

I would also cut UoP. Maybe you want to consider buffalo because it is very oos friendly.

Thanks, could you explain why I should take off uop?

The interview selection is somewhat random and the post interview selection as well.
Apply broadly.

I would cut LECOM and UNE since they are both relatively new programs. With your high DAT scores, I'm positive many schools on that list will give you a second look. Save the money!

For reference, I had similar stats and ECs (but lower DAT), and I was still able to pull in 5 interviews out of 15 schools.

I'd definitely take off ASDOH, LECOM, and UoP. ASDOH wants way more volunteering and your DAT is probably too high for them. LECOM is just a terrible deal. UoP is is probably too competitive and will likely be a waste of money as it is for most applicants (including myself). I personally would not apply to UTHSC and Rutgers because 4 years is too long in Memphis or Newark, and neither of them are particularly strong schools. Michigan, UPenn, and Columbia might be a stretch with your GPA but who knows? I think you have a pretty good chance at the other schools on your list. If you're truly considered in-state at MUSC, then that will probably be your best shot. It's not that difficult to get accepted there as a resident. I'm from SC and I personally know a ton of people that were accepted with 18s on the DAT and subpar GPAs. The school is pretty decent, but definitely overpriced. That being said, the plus side is that you would get to live in Charleston for 4 years.

thank you so much for your comment. Are you applying this year and what schools are you applying to?
