i intially posted this on an ongoing thread; however, i didn't get much input.

what is a good pathophys books if our 2nd year path blew and didn't learn a whole lot? B&W? Or just stick with BRS? I'm mainly concerned with boards, but gotta have a good underlying basis before jumping into a boards rvw book, I would think. I also have some time as we have rotations starting this yr as M2. What would u guys recommend to really learn pathophys well and to study for boards too (since I don't think I learned it very well when it was taught--our course just sucked really bad, did entire path in 3.5 months). PLease advise. Thanks

If you dont want to read Robbins, I would read Goljan's Pathology text (any of them) as he really knows how to get to the point and the read is almost as easy as listening in person. Good stuff. Everybody has their favorite, I suppose. I think it takes a solid month to learn/re-learn path, assuming you have at least been exposed to most of it already.

Yea I've asked you about Goljan before--that's what I was thinking. Yea I tried reading Robbins during our course; however, it was nuts trying to keep up and actually learning it in the time fram that we had and I think that's why I didn't learn path very well. But in any event, I have from dec-may pretty much devoted to boards with the exception of a 2-3 months of rotations which will still give me the evenings. I think I will need atleast a month for just path. I imagine it will be a lot quicker after that initial phase to actually REVIEW thereafter. I know you've said this in other posts, but do you think the Goljan Path REVIEW book (vs the actual text) is suffice in conjunction c BRS and probably some Goljan audio material?

Thanks for your response.

Yeah, the main thing about the Review is that it is outline format which doesnt work for everyone (especially since BRS is also outline format). His prose version is excellent also.

does anyone recommend blueprints for pathophys?
also, does anyone recommend underground clinical vignettes for pathophys?

Are you guys taking about Goljans Pathology Review (Stars) published by Saunders. Its about about 340 pages.{Because the guy (Goljan ) has written numerous books} Thx.

I don't think you can adequately learn pathophysiology from BRS Path. Integrating BRS Physiology is a good approach, but the Robbins book and QBook are also excellent. I used both approaches and am glad I did.

Are you implying the RObbins question book or the actual text? How do you exactly integrate BRS path and BRS phys? I mean I think I have a solid foundation of physiology. Are you saying that read cardiac phys then do cardiac path from brs? How is the Boards and Wards pathophys in integrating this approach and for path on the boards? Or should I stick with BRS'? Sorry for the redundency and the myriad of questions asked. Jus' trynna figure some things out. Thanks

I think he meant the actual Robbins textbook. I went through it, 1-2 chapters per week, during our school's path course. Highly recommended.

I suggest all medical students read Robbins cover to cover at least two times in their medical undergraduate career if they want to distinguish themselves from the algorithmically restrained drones in the hospital.
