hi ive been reading up on the forum a lot and find it really helpful and finally decided to make a thread. i have a couple questions.im just about to be 20 and ive started taking classes at a community college this past sesmester i started off part time but will be full time 4 classes this spring. i am currently playing catch up in math and science so i know its going to take me 3 years here. ive always wanted to be a pharmacist since i was little so after a year off from high school i decided to try to go for it. As a recently ive been given thought of being a doctor but i dont know how relistic it is. my orginal goal was to do my pre req at the community college but ill have to do some other places since they dont offer them all. then i was going to try to apply to uri and mcphs in boston since they are the two closet to me. i want to try to stay close to home as possible because i have a lot of doctor apps with a really good doctor that helps me a lot and couldnt see myself seeing another physiatrist. but i dont know how good my chances would be to get in there. my aunt gave me the idea of doing my cc work then apply to uri for a science major then i could get my bs. if i did that would i have a better chance at getting in uri pharm school? also going that route wouldnt that leave my options open for trying to apply to a medical school. what should i do know to keep both options open. i also do not have any experence in both fields would that be needed? thanks

I know that there are pharmacy schools that prefer a BS degree from a 4 year university, but I also seen plenty of cc students who got accepted into pharmacy school without trouble (I am not sure about the medical school, you can ask this question on the pre-med forum). I would suggest you seek volunteering or shadowing experiences from both pharmacy and medical side of the health profession. You will have a better idea of what you want to do. You should look up the prerequsite courses for both pharmacy school and medical school, I suspect they are very similar (I think pharmacy school has more pre. req than medical school). I think as long you are taking pre-health prerequisite courses, you have both options open.

You should also take advantage of the search function on this forum, many people have thought of a career in medical profession while following a pharmacy path.
