I am a student at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and am enrolled in the 0-6 program. I am looking to transfer to a new school for my second year and was trying to find out how difficult this would be and how much of a chance i have of getting into another school. At this point I am applying to Wilkes University, Palm Beach Atlantic U., Nova (florida), USP, Long Island University,Thomas Jefferson,St. Johns, and Temple University. Any information would be helpful please!!!!!!! Also I had been accepted to University of the Sciences for my freshman year of college but had found after I had been committed to mcphs. If i apply will previously being accepted to the 0-6 program help me get in or would i be able to get that spot that i was given?

This is what I think. I'm familiar with the MCPHS curriculum and I would say as long as you're not in your professional years (year 3 and onward), then you'll be treated like any other pre-pharm that is applying to pharmacy school during any cycle. I say as long as you have pre-requisites for those other schools + PCAT + decent GPA, then you'll have a fair shot at the schools you're considering.

I know why people don't like MCPHS, but everyone has their own opinion of the program. I personally believe it's a great school. My family members went there and have done very well for themselves. I mean, you haven't even taken pharmacy school courses yet, so you don't even have to explain that part yet. I think if you want to leave the school now to attend another pharmacy school, now is the perfect time before things start getting miserable.

That's my 2 cents though.

Okay, First of all why do you want to transfer out ?
From what i have heard its a good program and i am trying to get in with 3.85 as a second year student........my cousin is there and he says great things about the school . he is getting out next year...

You can transfer but most programs want you to enter as 0-6. and i think only MCPHS accept student into their second year program and you walking out of a Pharmacy prog... with raise questions....

But Please will you share your reason why you want to drop and give me sum pop about the school since i want to be there at all cost and make it out with the degree....

😕😕
What do you mean? Most schools are not 0-6 - you apply after so many years of pre-requisite coursework. Also, I don't think the OP has actually started the professional coursework (OP is still doing pre-reqs) so they wouldn't be treated differently than anyone else when applying to a pharmacy school.

well, it's VERY difficult considering they only accept about 2~5 applicants, not to mention their already filled with the original 6 year students. as far as your chances though...? i see you've already applied to several schools. so, on that note... i believe you'll find out soon enough 🙂

depends =/ different adcoms have different pet peeves. hopefully you mentioned it somewhere in your supplemental or personal statement though. but, considering how VERY saturated the market already is...? i think it's rather grim to believe that, that spot still exist. "...opportunities are seldom in life and if you don't make the best of it, it'll pass you bye..."

then again... you got in before right? so, why not again 😉

good luck...:luck:

I think a couple people get accepted into their 2nd year at USP (2-5, as stated above, sounds about right), but it's pretty hard. Also, I have heard similar frustrations here about USP and MCPHS (though the whining about MCPHS on this board is generally just a tad worse).

One thing I see is you've listed some schools that just have the professional phase (in particular, Jefferson). I believe you have to have completed prereqs and take the PCAT to get into those. Others (i.e. Temple) you'll get in, but just into the prepharm program, and then you'll have to take the PCAT to test into.

Not sure why you wanna transfer. Is it grades? Dont like the school anymore? Family?? Tuition?? Advice can depend on why.
But since u mentioned USP, I'ld like you to have a candid gist because it can be worse getting into USP and for some reason i see few USP posts here and they have a large student population. I always wonder why 'cos I dunno why?? USP already has students flowing through their noses (over 200 students!!). More students than they can even give you an accurate count! I went to another school before going there. I thank God everyday that I made it through and didnt fall into the crap that a few students did!
Professors are overloaded with work, most are ANAL and you're basically on your own. Nothing much goes on in the pharmacy department than fearing to fail and celebrating when you make at least a 70% (No curves!!) Regular Therapeutics test averages are always in the 60's..Ask anyone!!
You have to study and study and study just to make sure u dont get tricked by the profs questions. Bottom-line is they dont give a flying crap whether u fail or pass because its as simple as paying the high tuition again and try again if you havent exhausted your only 2 probation limits. (2nd strike u're withdrawn and doesnt matter if you're in the 6th year and have spent 200K. No extra chance nor remediation, but sure they can automatically give you a bachelors degree in some BS field after 6 years!!) What are u gonna do? Take them to court?? They got ur money already.
But I wish you success with your search. One advice i'll give to anyone is have options and explore them. But before settling for a school, try and talk to different students, staff, ask many questions and visit the school and get a feel for it. Most importantly explor your options to succeed. The best schools are those that their faculty care about you. Not the ones that more than 50 percent of students have unaddressed complaints all the time. There are a lot of good schools out there.
Just wanting you to do some critical thinking and make a good decision.

Above poster is not too far off from the truth.

A few weeks ago the medchem professor said "you guys did an excellent job on the last test. The average was a 77.8."

Not sure how that's excellent...

We do get a good education here, but it can often be tough. The above poster may not know that therapeutics is now spread over 2 years for c/o 2012 and after, but there is still a fair share of problems.
