Hello,
I searched the forums and faq and couldn't quite find an anwser to my question, and I figured someone here had to know! I know that TUCOM (CA, NY and NV) all have a math requirement. It says you need to take 3 hours of calc or stats to apply. My question is, I have already taken three calc classes, and a stats class ( all standard pre med at my school). What I am wondering is if I only need 3 hours ( I believe that is what it says in the app) is that only one class? And if so, do I get to choose what class I list on my BCP gpa, or is it automatically done. Because in one of the classes I actually got a C- ( dumb freshman mistake, should have taken a pre-cal course first) but got B's in the other two and in my stats class, so I wouldn't want the low grade to affect my gpa. Finally ... if I do get to chose which one to include, would it be worth retaking the class I got a C- in ( as I was going to for ACMAS apps anyway) get an A in it ( I know I can a year later) and include that one? Thanks.

All the science and math courses that you take are part of the AACOM's science GPA regardless if it is a pre-req for the DO schools or not. AACOMAS as well as AMCAS calculates three GPA's. Your overall GPA for all college work taken in any college. Your science GPA is calculated for any math or science course taken in any school. Then you have the GPA without your science courses.

I was under the impression that AACOMAS only uses BCP gpa (without math) and (Nate told me this) that a specific math requirement for a DO school wouldn't get calculated into your BCP gpa because AACOMAS does this. So it would be a requirement, but not calculated into my science gpa. Any one have any other imputs??

You're right that a math requirement would not be calculated into your BCP for AACOMAS but it will be calculated into your overall GPA.

Sorry!!! AACOMAS only counts math in overall GPA. AMCAS counts both math and science into the science GPA.
