I got into both TUCOM-MI and AZCOM, but I'm not sure which one I should go to. I'm about 50/50 on my decision. I've lived in Cali all my life and I'm very close to my family, but it would be nice to get away. When I went for my interview at TUCOM, the student showing us around didn't seem that happy there, but that could just be him. Students at AZCOM seemed very happy and the facilities are really nice.

I eventually want to do my residency in California, and I was told by AZCOM that I could potentially do my 3rd and 4th year rotations outside of AZ (possibly CA?). Is this true? Coming from the bay area, I've also come to really appreciate diversity but AZ doesn't have that much of it. I also already put down my $2000 deposit for TUCOM because of timing of my acceptances.

Does anyone know where these two schools fall in rankings? Any advice on where I should go or things I should consider in my decision? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! 🙂

I can't believe no one is chiming in on this. Maybe we're all burnt out comparing schools.
My student tour guide wasn't very enthuiastic, but I feel the student body as a whole are pretty happy. Too bad you didn't get my gf as a tour guide, she's always bubbly! If you want to get away, then go away. You'll get a similar education wherever you go. But if you really want a residency in CA, your best bet is to go to Touro and have almost all your rotations in CA instead of going to AZ and hoping you get a spot when you apply for rotations in CA.
I'm sure about diversity, since Touro is only 2% underrepresented minorities, and I talked with my interviewers about that. They're working on it and hopefully I'll be able to help in whatever capacity I'm able. I'm in a minority by no means underrepresented in medicine, but I too value diversity.
I don't know how both schools measure up in terms of tuition and living, but I wouldn't sweat the 2000 deposit since 4 years in AZ is probably at least that much cheaper than the Bay Area. I'd just hate losing it on principle.

Oh I forgot to say... go to Touro!

Ask if you can transfer to TUCOM-Nevada. It is a great school with happy students, and great opportunites for future clerkships.

*chanting* "Toooou-RO!Toooou-RO!Toooou-RO!" 😀
