Anyone hear from Tufts? Anybody interview with them in the past and have any info. to share?

Thanks in advance!

I interviewed there last year. There are tours, financial aid presentations, etc. The actual interview was 30 minutes with two interviewers (mine were both male professors). They spent a good 10 minutes or so telling me about themselves. Then they told me to tell them about myself. I blanked for a good 15-20 seconds b/c I hate that question. They already have my application. Plus, where do I start? They asked me some stuff about things I said in my essay, etc. The time went very fast (probably in part b/c of the 10 minute introduction). At the end, they said "well, we have 3 questions we just thought of to ask you, but we're out of time". This really frustrated me. I calmly said I'd be happy to answer anything in e-mail, after which they encouraged me to e-mail them. I drove home, e-mailed them immediately, and sent individual thank you letters. I never heard from them, was wait-listed, and never got in. On the up side, they did serve some nice fruit platters while I waited to be interviewed.

I interviewed there last year too. I had a pretty enjoyable time. I had two professors interviewing me (one male, one female) and like Joslin said they told me about themselves and then turned the general "tell me about yourself" prompt to me. They were really laid back and just went with the conversation, not really grilling questions. They did make sure to inject an ethical questions. Since I said in my application I want to go into equine mine was about improving racing performance at the potential harm to the animal (again, more just inserted into conversation than posed as a direct question).

Also during the day you could go on tours led by current students (I think all first years, but not sure). They also had current students in the waiting room (a holding tank of really nervous people, probably the worst part of the day) to answer questions, etc. There were also financial meetings (pretty scary).

I was not accepted last year, as I'm back in the applicant pool now. I did apply there again and have not heard anything since the mass email a few weeks ago.

Fruit platters? Working class kind of fruit (apples, pears, bananas) or snooty fruit (kiwi, pomegranate, exotic stuff you can't pronounce)?

Like it matters, right? If it's free, I'll eat it.

Nice fruit platters. Pineapple, strawberries, etc. I think there were cookies too...

Can't remember the fruit, but I do remember the cookies and there was lemonade too (yellow, not pink).

Well, I couldn't stand it anymore and called the admissions office. I guess if I don't receive a letter by the end of next week, chances are I'm not in the running. It's not the end 'cause life goes on.... 😉

I know last year I got an interview off the alternate list. I got a letter when everyone else got there's about interviews that said "we are still considering your application, but don't have an interview time for you..." They called about a week later with available slots.

Still pulling for you loo.

I wish I knew when they were planning on sending out more interview request letters. I wonder if they organize mail piles by geographic region, last name, or possibly date the application was completed? Or maybe there's a ranking system. Or maybe I'm just losing my mind... Why can't they just let everyone know instantaneously with an email?!

Anyway, from what I can tell, all the people on this board who have said that they have heard from Tufts are on the East Coast (Mass., Conn., NY, Penn., VA)

Is there anyone who got an interview invite from Tufts who lives west of the Mississippi?!

Hi. I think your "east coast only" theory may hold water because I applied to Tufts too and have not heard a peep from them, other than that email awhile back. I live in Indiana and have received an interview at most schools that I have applied to so far. So let's hope to hear from them this weekend or early next week. I agree with you that, based on what their admissions folks told you, if we haven't heard by the end of next week it doesn't look good.

I received my Tufts interview in Kentucky (where I go to school) on Wednesday, although I am a Pennsylvania resident so your East Coast theory may still hold true...

Not anymore.

I know someone from the West Coast who got her invite on Tuesday. 🙁

I know someone else (not Loo) who called the admissions office today and was told that all the letters were mailed three weeks ago, which is clearly B.S. if the letters reported by others on this board were dated the 12th (i.e. one week ago).

The woman this person spoke to was very short and unfriendly... possibly due to the high volume of calls on the exact same subject? I don't think there's any way this woman could be the regular person who answers the phone there... someone who is always very friendly and helpful no matter how crazy the phones get. (Loo, this latter person is probably the person you spoke with... I think her name is Patti.)

Hey Guys,
Called Tufts yesterday and tried to change my scheduled interview (Feb 14) to a later week, but they told me that the last interview date is Feb 15th. Hope this helps!

Does anyone want to call Tufts on Monday and find out if they still have interview letters to send? I'd volunteer to do it myself but I'm a wimp, even though I know I could do it anonymously.

Anyway, if anyone takes up the challenge, please post the answer here! (Oh, and be sure to ask for Patti... she's the one who will know for sure and will actually be pleasant on the phone.)

If it's any consolation to you...I spoke with Patti F. herself when asking about interview invites. My advice would be to wait until the end of next week (Jan. 27th). If you don't get anything via snail mail, call and politely ask for your status.

Remember, there's no *crying* in vet school admissions...unless you are accepted, that is 😉

Rejected by Tufts today. Whatever. I'm impressed by the fact Rebecca Russo signed the letter in ink.

BTW--hey Tufts...ya could have put my status on your grad application website and saved a tree. :meanie:

Thank you Tufts for sparing me the privilege of paying >38,000 for the education you offer. 🙄

Still lookin' for love...

I had an interview with Tufts on February 8th. Still waiting to hear back... anyone interview and received good/bad news back yet?

Word on the street (from someone that interviewed on the 14th with me) is that they are mailing decesions on March 1st. This also goes along with someone elses post that said they are meeting those last couple days of February.

Tufts just sent out emails marking the end of the interview season, and telling all interviewed applicants to be on the lookout for decision letters in snail mail boxes as well as on the online system.
Let the obsessively-logging-in-to-check-for-decision-letters begin! 😀

Letter came today. I GOT IN!! It's a small envelope so don't freak out like I did. My interviewers even wrote little notes on the letter...how great is that? I live in PA. Oh my word now I have to decide between Tufts and Colorado. I have no idea what the heck to do.

GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY!!!!!

Congratulations. Would you mind telling me if your information is updated online on the tracking page? Mail hasn't come yet and I want to see if I should have something there or not if it is an acceptance.

No my information is not updated online, however there was a note in my letter that said it was an early admissions decision because the Committe voted to admit immediately. I don't know what that exactly means, they might write that for everyone (ie you're not on the waitlist?). Anyway, good luck to you!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Good job---now go celebrate!!

Awwww, shucks! Yer makin' me blush, now!

I'm feelin' the love... 😍

Thanks.

PS--you'll need to start practicing the New England accent before school starts 😉

I got the same letter today! 🙂 It's dated 2/28 and I'm in Kentucky if that helps. I also just recently (as in the last hour or so) received an email saying it was going to be posted online by 2:00pm. I don't know if thats for everyone or what...

The letter, I thought, was really nice. Down at the bottom my interviewers hand-wrote
"This is the best school for you!" and
"Great job Deanna! Hope you choose Tufts."

I thought it was a nice personal touch 🙂

I'm 98% sure I won't be going to Tufts, though, but I'm going to wait to see the financial aid package. But out of state waitlisters, I'm pretty sure that the list will be moving at least one spot! 🙂

Best of luck all!

Congratulations on the Tufts acceptance!!!!!!!!!!!!
Of all the places I interviewed and/or visited, they were by far the most pleasant and down to earth! Yeah!!!!!!!!

So far, nothing's posted on the Tufts tracking page... 😕

me either nutella. i guess they are doing this one-by-one. no more mass mailings!

has anyone from massachusetts heard from Tufts, or has it only been out of state people? so much waiting....

Just got an email from Tufts that said my admissions decision will be posted online today after 4 PM. Anyone else get this email? I just got really anxious. I know a bunch of people got acceptances last week. I wouldn't be too upset with an alternate spot. Why did they send the email 2 hours before it is available? Now I have to sit and be nervous - so much for getting work done this afternoon.

I'm a Mass resident whose in the same boat! Good luck!

It's going to be a long 94 and a half minutes! 🙂

I just checked, hoping it might already be up. No such luck. Urrgh. Good luck everyone! What day did you interview? I was the 9th and noticed that those who got accepted last week were all from the 14th-15th. Or maybe I am way off....

i interviewed on the 8th...got the same e-mail today...10 more minutes...

Very, very nervously, I checked online and read my letter... I was accepted at Tufts! Very happy 😍 So, now I have to choose between 3 great places- Tufts, Penn and Cornell (I have told UW Madison, Oregon St and Edinburgh that I am not accepting their offers, so at least 3 waitlist spots should free up). How are people deciding? My husband has to stay in New York City, so Penn is the closest, but Cornell is the cheapest and Tufts felt the best...

 Agree wholeheartedly!

I also got the same email, and turns out I have a nice acceptance letter waiting for me! However, had already had my sights set on Cornell, so my response was more or less “that’s cute – they like me...” 😎 Plan on writing them right away to cut down on the waiting agony of the alternative list applicant who will get my spot! However, am kinda looking forward to see if I get any hand written notes on the paper version from my interviewers.....

Hi everyone! I also got into Tufts today. I'm pretty sure I'll be going there, unless I get accepted to Cornell off the waiting list...anyone else pretty sure they're going to tufts too?

Ack, that's a tough choice! Was trying to avoid the same scenario, which is why I turned down all my other interview invites and only bothered with the ones I really would consider. I didn’t get the feeling that Tufts would be a good fit for me, so Cornell was kinda a no brainer for me. But I agree, the distance to NYC thing is a big con for Cornell, esp if your husband is here! However, there seems to be fairly decent bus travel available, and for a bit more money, even a Cornell run campus-to-campus bus that gets to NYC in about 4 hrs instead of the 6 for Greyhound, and the bus is really nice an even has wireless internet onboard! 😍

I unfortunately did not get the same letter as everyone else seems to have recieved today. I was rejected, not even on the wait list 🙁

Oh Mokadet, I'm sorry to hear that! Were you really hoping to go to Tufts, or have you other schools that you are more interested in?

Tufts was my first choice. I'm currently wait-listed at VA-MD (I'm a Virginia resident) which makes more financial sense, but after the frustrations I've had with them (and the agony of rotting away on the short but slow moving list of alternates) I was definately considering going to Tufts even if admitted to VA-MD.

My sincerest sympathies, mokadet. I have a feeling that the rejection from LSU is waiting for me when I get home (in FLA for a conference and NOT getting to enjoy the good weather OR the beach).

I hope you get off the waiting list at Va-MD...

Much luck,

loo
