Hi all,

I don't know why but for some reason my posts keep mysteriously disappearing after I post them. Anyways, I want to post this again because it is important to me. I live in MA and I would love to attend a school in Boston. It's close to home, it's an amazing city, etc., etc. Can students from both Tufts and BU please tell me about the schools. I want to know everything about everything, good and the bad. I plan on visiting this summer but I want to hear from students' perspectives first. I haven't taken the DAT yet, but I'm hoping and praying that I will get in to one of these two, and when I do have some additional knowledge will help me out a great deal. Thank you!

After you take the DAT, we can put some perspective on the two. Shoot for twenties or so across the board.

I went to BU. I think that the two schools are very similar. Basically, one difference may be that BU has the APEX program where you spend several months the first and second year working as a dental assistant in a dental office or at one of the school's specialty departments. I thought this was good and enjoyed the break from the daily grind. As far as the number of patients and the cases you will get get, they are very similar since the schools are close to each other and in the same neighborhoods.

The only thing I'm not sure about is the cost comparison - if Tufts happens to be cheaper, then go there...otherwise I think they're equal and the truth is - NO ONE ever asks you where you went to dental school once you're done!!!!

Get some interviews and acceptances first, then come back and ask (though by then, you would have figured this out for yourself, having interviewed at both schools).

Unless you actually get into these schools, there's no sense in getting your hopes up or building too much anticipation. Keep your options open as far as schools go, applying to only these two schools is a recipe for disaster. There is no magic formula for getting into these schools, your scores could be too low, or too high (so called "Tufts Syndrome").

Good luck getting into one of these schools though. If you do get into both, Tufts is slightly cheaper, and a much better school 👍 (because I'll be there 😉)

i'm going to have to disagree with this, BU's dental school isn't accessible by the city subway system. That will single handedly change what type and volume of patients the school will see. There are several threads on here talking about patient probs at BU. Tufts has 2 subway lines within walking distance to their front door. As for Bu's education, I've heard nothing but good things about and the few friends I have over there enjoy learning from their professors.
