Tufts, Georgetown, BU Master's Programs!

Hey,

I got into the Tufts, Georgetown, and BU master's programs. I am trying to decide what to do, right now its between Tufts and Georgetown. I am a recent Tufts graduate, so I can't get an unbiased opinion about whether I should go to Tufts or Gtown. Gtown is established and Tufts is new; Gtown has 100 kids, and Tufts has 30. Both have their pros and cons...anyone deciding between these programs and want to shed some light?

Georgetown interviews about 50% of the SMP class, and admits 15%.
Tufts interviews the top 25% of the MBS class, and no data is out on admittance since its new.

Hey....I'm in the MS-Phys at Cincy, so I really can't speak on specifics, but I would recommend Tufts since its smaller. Our program only has 20 ppl and its great becuase we get lots of attention and one-on-one time with the faculty and profs, which is a major plus to me. My only experience w/ GTown is that I met someone in that program at one of my interviews and they said that they got very little attention and just felt like another head in the crowd. Now I can't speak on this as well as someone f/ GT, so take it with a grain of salt. But I think that smaller class size is a huge plus 👍

I hear a lot about these SMP-like programs having linkages to certain med schools. What does that mean? And does anyone know if Tufts MBS has any linkages?

the only real linkage i've seen is EVMS

anyone have information regarding class sizes (total in the program and actual classroom size) for BU MAMS as well as how they grade? (A/B/C only or +/- too? curved according to MA students or med students?)

I don't know anything about the Tufts program, but I can speak for my experiences with the Gtown program:

1) Yes it is a large class size, so it sorta feels like you're a med student (Med School Light as we call it)

2) The administration does a great job in trying to get you into med school. You should investigate Tufts regarding these:
a) They send out a letter to all the medical schools to which you are applying at the beginning of the year. This letter explains the rigorous program and how you are graded with medical school students (not just a grad program)
b) After the first semester, a recommendation letter will get sent to all the schools. This recommendation letter will be from someone you probably don't know, so the recommendation itself isn't all that great. However, this letter includes all of your grades from the first semester, so it does bear some weight to the adcoms.
c) The administrators work hard to establish relationships with certain medical schools. At the beginning of the program, they'll tell you which schools you ought to apply to.

3) The program itself if is pretty rigorous here. We take a total of 34 credits and 21 of which are taken with gtown medical school students. If you get into gtown med school, you dont need to take those courses, so your first year is pretty chill.


What are your positives and negatives about those school?

Positives about Gtown - 1) The profs here are awesome (about 90% of them) 2) There is a notetaking service, which is awesome for studying

Negatives about Gtown - 1) DC is expensive! 2) The school is kinda old and outdated.


Overall, I really enjoyed my year here, but I don't think I want to stay here for med school. I am strongly considering accepting an EVMS offer over georgetown. I am also waiting to hear back from Penn State.
