I have an interview this Jan. at Tufts and am trying to figure out travel accomodations. I will be travelling from the Maryland/Washington DC area. I realize that the weather will probably be horrible in Jan. and do not even want to imagine what woudl happen if flights were cancelled/delayed. Does anyone have any suggestions about flying/taking amtrack to the Boston area during this time of year?

Also, anyone take amtrack up that long? I do not want to be tired during the interview but I don't know if I want to get a hotel yet. I was considering the womens place in the area on berkley st. for $60 a night which the tufts email said is only a 10 minute walk to the school. othewise I was really considering getting on a 8 or 10 o clock amtrack and sleeping and waking up and going to grab breakfast and chill for an hour and go straight to the interview.

I was even thinking about trying greyhound but that is NOT worth it because I will be so tired form the 11+ hour bus ride! I just dunno if I will be refreshed enough from my amtrack sleep. Since it's my first interview I'd rather pay more for a plane but adding hotel and cab rides to and from will add up ...any suggestions?

I stayed at the marriot courtyard for 90 bucks when I interviewed there...I actually told them I wanted the Boston University rate (they don't check where you're interviewing)...and I believe BU has some other discounted rates with other hotels...http://dentalschool.bu.edu/admissions/hotels.html I would seriously suggest not taking a bus...the flight shouldn't be all that expensive...try airtran or southwest....a lot of these hotels have free shuttles to and from the airport so that's something else to look into....good luck

I'm pretty sure the flight is going to cost you less than amtrack. And if the weather is bad enough for flight delays, there are probably going to be some amtrack delays as well (although possibly not as bad). I didn't get a hotel when I went to Tufts; I flew from NYC that morning, and flew back that night. I realize that this could be a bad idea if there are weather-related flight delays, but it worked really well for me. Also getting from the airport to the school is really easy (and quick) via their metro system. If you're getting a hotel, get one within walking distance from the school. I know that there are a bunch of them there with reasonable rates.
