Hey guys...Im leaving for my TUFTS interview this weekend, so I was just wondering if anyone who has been to this interview could give me some insight on what is involved and any tips. Thanks!

Tufts interview will be the most relaxed interview you have. Don't worry about anything, all of the people are great and it's a well organized school. The only stressful part is when the financial aid officer explains how much it will cost to attend, and how to pay for it. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply Paul....but I looked at the interview feedback left this morning from the interview on Monday and the person got this question:

Say a train was speeding towards a fork in the track. One side of the fork was an alternate route and has not been functional in 10yrs. A boy is playing on that side. The other side of the fork is functional and has fifteen people on the track. You only have time to let one group know that a train is coming. Who would you try to save?

Huh?? That doesnt seem like a laid back interview!! I dont know how I would answer this question on the spot!! 😕

The interview IS wicked laid back. It will also put you at ease that they accept like 80 percent of those people interviewed. They like wierd questions like that though so make sure you read the feedback section and think up answers to those questions. I would personally barrel over the little boy in the above hypothetical question. Its better than killing 14 additional people!

Avingupta, good lucky buddy!! Im sure you will do just fine.

About the hypothetical question, I would personally go to the side with 15 people. My reasoning is that if you go to the non functional side, you could potentially kill all people that are on board, on your train. That number could easily exceed the 15 people you would kill by taking the other route. One of your responsibilities is to protect your passengers, so by taking the functional route, you assure them of that protection.

Gupta,

Good luck at your interview, your going to need it. Just kidding! Seriously, my interview was extremely laid back. I was expecting a whole bunch of ethical questions, and ended up getting none. My hardest question was where do you see dentistry going in the next 25 years. Just be honest in your answers and you'll do fine.

Hey guys...just came back from a cold weekend in Boston. TUFTS interview went great. Once again, I was very lucky to have such a great group. I really lucked out in this application cycle with my interview groups.

The day started off with all of us (about 10) in the conference room introducing ourselves. I was late (damn Boston trafffic) by about 15 mins. If you are going to Boston for an interview, please do not underestimate Boston traffic...plan well ahead!

We were then given the statistics such as 85% acceptence, and so on. We were informed that last year, Tufts recieved 1996 applications in total for the year. As of yesterday, they already had about 2100 applications and project 2400 for the end of the cycle. Now thats an increase!

Then the Associate Dean came in and gave us a presentation on Tufts based on questions that we asked. This led up to lunch, where all these students came out of nowhere and started chatting with us. It seemed like all the students were quite happy with Tufts. I was really concerned with the large class size of 150, but the students assured me that it was not a problem and they do not even notice.

During lunch, I was escorted into a room by a 4th year student for my personal interview. I really lucked out, because my interviewer was the president of ADSA, which really caught me off guard for a moment. ANyways, the interview went really really well, and it was basically a conversation between us. It started off with the basic, "why dentistry" and after that, it really went off into a tangent as we talked about travelling and all the countries we both have visited so far. My interview was really tailored to my personal statement, and from his questions, I could really tell that he had carefully read over my personal statement and the non-academic part of my application.

After the interview, we were taken on tour by Katherine Wasilenko. I must admit, the Tufts facilities were AMAZING! I cant think of one criticism I could give for facilities....they looked great, looked clean, and just everything seemed really really good.

I was also impressed by Tufts location. By being located in the middle of Boston, not only does it give Tufts a great patient pool, but its so close to everything, including public transport, movie theatre, musicals, clubs, everything! Great location.

Overall, I was quite impressed with Tufts. The only negative thing about the school is the pricetag. When financial aid talks about numbers, it really stabs me in the heart. Tufts is incredibly expensive with the cost of education being at $67 000/year. Thats a hefty debt! Furthermore, I was really happy that I am able to get a MPH degree as well, but it would cost me $20 000 more on top of my dental tuition.

Personally, its gonna be a tough decision between Temple and Tufts (if I get accepted to both), but honestly, the pricetag may be my deciding factor. Temple is a much cheaper school and was just as nice as Tufts, and it also allows me to get the MPH degree as well. I will try to find out more about Temple's public health program, and will look forward to making one of the most important decision in my life in the upcoming months.

yah but 2400 applications is still A LOT! Im going to be very curious to see how many application were filed through AADSAS this year? Anyone know a current number?

at tufts, Mark told us that before this year, there was a decline in applicants for a few years, but this year, there was a surge.

Tufts is a wise choice if you decide to go. I would have wanted to go there if it wasn't so expensive. If you decide to go I believe you will not regret it.

Avingupta,
What does Katherine Wasilenko do? What's her job? Is she the person that looks over the applications(aside from admissions committee). I just want to know her role in the admissions process.

hello,
I just received an interview invitation via email from Tufts. They gave me the available dates to choose from and indicated that the admissions office will only schedule from one of the dates listed. it says that "if you are unable to visit Tufts on one of the aforementioned dates your application will be withdrawn from further consideration". I cannot make it to any of the dates...and want to request for a later date...has anyone tried to do that with Tufts and worked? What do I do???

If you really want to go to tufts, I HIGHLY advise against going to a later date. Go to the earliest possible date to get the best chance for acceptance. Why are you unable to make it to their dates? If its something trivial like an exam or something, make arrangements to rewrite it.

that kind of happened to me. apparently, they send emails out for interviews, but for some reason i didn't get one so when i got the snail mail and tried to call a day later for one of the many dates, i was told that there was only one date left. i told them my situation and said that i couldn't make it to that one day and they gave me another date that was doable for me (a date that wasn't on the schedule of dates they gave me originally). so yeah...it's definitely possible. i'm just not sure if it's cuz i didn't receive the email and they felt bad or what but you should try and explain why you can't make it. like dentaldream said, if it's just an exam or something try to reschedule that. good luck!

thanks guys...i'll try to contact my professor and work something out

Hey, I got offered an interview with Tufts way back in Mid-September, and my available dates only spanned a 2 week period. I was getting married overseas and explained this to them, and they rescheduled me for a later date. So, as someone else commented, it is certainly possible to reschedule - but with how impressive the school is, I would make every attempt to get there ASAP!! and don't drive!!!!!!!
