I was looking on the Tufts website and it says

1 Letter from a Biology Professor
1 Letter from a second science professor: Biochemistry, Chemistry, Math or Physics (Or a pre-professional composite committee letter)

I only have two science letters, one from genetics professor and another from a biology professor.

This seems a little strange to me that they require one bio and one non bio letter. has anyone been accepted with maybe 2 biology letters? or maybe 2 chem letters.

A few of the schools I applied to specifically requested a letter from a bio teacher + chem teacher + dentist.

Or, if your school has a committee letter, just use that and you'll be fine.

I went through a list of about 10 private schools so far and they only listed that they require 2 science professor letters, Tufts so far from what Ive seen is the only one to request specifically from which science fields.

maybe its different with non private schools

Ah, maybe it's not as common as I thought. I just know one of my state schools specifically required it, and I seem to remember WVU wanting bio, chem, AND physics recommendations (which I thought was really odd and actually kept me from applying there!).

I have a committee letter, but the biology letter that it includes is from a biology lab course, that wasn't taught by a professor but a med student. I checked with my pre-health committee and they had said it would be find for dental schools, but maybe not for Tufts?

I emailed Tufts admissions office and told them I have a committee letter (which includes an orgo professor letter, a nonscience, community service, 2 dentists and PI) and I asked them if these letters would suffice, and here's what they told me:

"Based on the list you have provided you would still be required to submit a Biology letter of recommendation. The Biology letter of recommendation does not need to come from a General Biology professor. The letter can come from any professor who has taught you a course offered in the Biology department (i.e. Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology etc.)."

hmm well I guess I better go beg my math or physics professor from years ago for a letter...

Very helpful, thank you! I also emailed them and am waiting for a reply. How long did it take for the admissions office to get back to you?

They ask for a LOR from a General Dentist, and it's even in bold on their website. I submitted a LOR from an orthodontist and still got accepted to Tufts class of '18. So I don't think they take that very serious.. hope this helps!

When you say committee letter, do you mean an actual separate committee letter, or do you mean a committee packet that included your letters from other sources? For what it's worth, I had the same issue when I applied to Tufts last year. I had a committee packet, which included a committee letter, but I didn't have a bio letter. I was told by Tufts that my committee letter was sufficient to satisfy the bio requirement, while the other letters in my packet satisfied the other requirements (non-bio, dentists). I didn't have any problems with my app being marked as complete and sent to the adcom for review and was never asked for additional information.
